    Troubleshooting out of curiosity.

'08 TRD Off Road. I've always noticed that my DTRLs aren't on 24/7. Now, I don't mind, I kind of like the look of them off, but I never did the 'disable' mod to turn them 'off'. Anyone know if it's a year specific thing when they ran them as DTRLs? I know they work, as they blink for the turn signal. Just wondering why they wouldn't be on..:notsure:

Nope, not that I know. I check the wires where you normally splice in a switch for the 'mod' and they're all intact.

That was my question or thought, rather. I wonder if they were deactivated from the dealership? I've had the truck for years, always wondered, never did anything about it.

Was the DTRL a 'package' or an option? Perhaps thats the easiest explanation. I would think that it was standard but I could be wrong.

This thread will give you what to look for if you have or don't have DTRL from the factory. You may not have the required relay and components needed. That being said you could if desired install DTRL with a couple of parts. Toyota Part # 82241-04030 is a relay and Part # 81980-35020 is a jumper.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/05-drl-daytime-running-lights-install-oem.1475/

The day time running lights are controlled by the body ECU with a signal ( green wire with a black strip ) going from the Body ECU to the Turn Signal Flasher at the connection to the flasher this wire turns into a green wire with a red strip. If you have the DTRL then this could be a problem with the Turn Signal Flasher, body ECU or wiring. This information is from the 2006 Service Manual Electrical Schematics. The wire colors may not be correct for the 2008.

If the turn signals are working you can eliminate everything downstream of the Turn Signal Flasher.

    Below is from the manual:

    (w/ daytime running light)
∗ This system is designed to automatically activate the turn signal lights during the daytime to keep the car highly visible to other vehicles. This system is controlled by the body ECU.

This system makes use of the turn signal lights as daytime running lights.

For this reason, when the turn signal lights are operated, the daytime running lights function is interrupted momentarily, which, however, will be brought back into operation as soon as the interposed operation is over.

∗ This system is enabled when the conditions given below are met.

    A) Ignition switch ON condition
    B) Turn signal lamp switch OFF condition
    C) Hazard lamp switch OFF condition
    D) Light control switch OFF condition
    E) Parking brake switch OFF condition (Parking brake out of operating condition)**

**: This system does not become active when the parking brake switch is ON. However, once the OFF signal of the parking brake switch is input into the body ECU, this system will become active thereafter, regardless of whether the parking brake switch is ON or OFF.

My 2011 didn't have them either. Used the parts that Jimmy referred to in the above post and got them on.

Great to know, thanks gents for all of the help! I suppose I just have a non-DTRL option. I'll look into swapping those parts in when I get home from my 'vacation.' Thanks gents!
