Well I can't play in this one (thank goodness!) However for reference if anyone forgot what 18" is like I have a picture of it. 18" isn't that rare here, only reason I took it was this was in the month of May a couple of years ago, we got 18" on that storm.

No reminder needed. I sat down and calculated the inches of snow I've seen in my lifetime and it's in the neighborhood of 275 feet. Biggest snowfall I recall was 38 inches. Most in one winter was 320 inches.

Thanks, and glad you caught a break. I think I'm pretty well prepped. Our biggest problem is ice taking down trees onto the power lines. We should be all set on heat and food, though. I haven't had my truck out in snow yet. I'm not 4wd but I did install a TrueTrac which is supposed to work well on slippery surfaces and I now have some sand bags in the back. It did well in the mud, didn't it @Marty65?

I wish we could have 12" of just snow.

I'm definitely in the ice band. They are already talking about it changing more to snow and less ice. We'll see how it plays out.

Hmmmm... which is worse, a half inch of ice or two feet of snow. I guess it depends on how warm it gets in the hours and days immediately following.

Yep... I hear you. Typhoon while stationed on Guam... lost power for just over two weeks. You don't even realize all the things in your life that run on electricity until you have no electricity for a long period of time.

We're not to get any ice with this storm but they're still saying the probability of power outages is high. I guess two feet of snow and 50 mph winds will do that.

We had a bad ice storm around 05 that took us down for a while. I was so grateful I had gas logs those days.

I think Will.Rogers said.."everybody complains about the weather but nobody does a damn thing about it". Weather is one of the few things that everyone has in common, regardless of wealth, age or whatever. I guess it's best to prepare the best we can and suck it up. I hope everyone stays safe.

93 storm of the century, snow as far South as the Fl. panhandle. She slammed into the Saluda Mountain and dumped on Asheville and the area hard. Lost electricity and could tell it wasn't coming back any time soon and in the end it was over a week. Another recruiter was down in Hendersonville NC and had juice still, we had 2 young kids one a baby. Drove the back roads there because I-26 was closed. The Ex wife used to complain about about me buying another 4x4, after that trip she said she would never complain again about my truck payments. That lasted almost a week LOL.

Try a typhoon on a ship! And the electrical generators and every governor operated machine keeps tripping because the mechanical weights are so offset from horizontal, have to tie yourself into your rack to sleep, and water coming inside every orifice the boat has. Hmm the worst one ever was very near Guam... Don't think the weather guessers have gotten much better since then either.
