A wood burning insert is just like your fireplace except air tight and highly efficient. No electricity is required, but a powered blower is a huge plus. A pellet stove on the other hand has to have electricity to power the control board, feed auger, draft fan, etc.

    Not all of it...

Most of the stuff I'll start working up next spring is just in 4-foot lengths right now.

Had the addition to my singlewide built designed that I could safely install the stove that had been sitting in my carport for a year waiting to be used.

A buddy of mine has a single-wide and he and I have been semi-planning an addition for his for a couple of years now, for the same reason. I even have a spare stove for him in my garage, for when he's ready to build. About what did yours cost you, if I can ask? Looks like it's about an 8x8?

Actually, the addition is built on top of about half of an 8' wide deck/porch I had added to the entire 50' length of the house. The room is about 8X20, and the rest of the length is a covered porch. I don't really remember how much it cost, since it was done over a period of time, with labor from some friends of mine who are good at construction. The materials were a couple of thousand dollars here and there, for framing lumber, sheetrock, hardwood flooring, Etc. as best as I can recall.IMG_2295.jpgIMG_2290.jpg

Interesting. So even without power we could feel more heat within the home from having an insert? Without the home get smokey?

Thanks for dealing with my novice knowledge...wife loves having fires, it just pains me to get one roaring hot while watching 80% of heat go up and out!

You won't get smoke inside the house. The fan isn't a draft inducer, it's to circulate hot air through the room. When the power's out hot air will still circulate through natural convection, so you'll still feel the warmth. The fan just helps spread it around the room better, is all.

When I am running my pellet stove full bore in the winter and the power pops in the middle of a storm, THAT is the only time I dislike the pellet stove. Not from the loss of heat, but it smolders real bad and I need to break the whole thing down and clean it.

Next time it happens, I may just open the door and scoop out all the lit pellets to keep it from gunking up the whole interior.

Through natural convection, meaning blowing fans designed to spin without power?

Anyone know where to get the heat operated fans other then Lehman's? Just wondering about a different supplier.

I think Northern Tool, Tractor Supply, and even Amazon carry the Eco Fans.

Not convection, electricity. Temperature differential exploited to generate electricity + electric motor to consume same and spin fan. Peltier effect for the science geeks.

    What

We were talking about how the heat from an insert would radiat through the room if the power went out and the electric motor no longer functioned

    What

You were talking about Ecofans. Or maybe I have trouble translating Canadian...
