lowering gears after larger tires? Broken Arrow Trail, Sedona

    How many of you have gotten bigger tires and then lowered the gears to accommodate?
    I went to Sedona for 10 days and did some trails and I'll post a video, but in the video you hear my tires screeching. It dawned on me I should lower my gear ratio now since I have larger tires. I think I'm going to go even larger in the future.
    I know all he screeching may not be because of gear ratio but it made me stop and think.
    Also I don't understands the ratio lingo so if anyone could point me to a link with ratio info so I could wrap the head around it, I'd appreciate it.
    No undercarriage was hurt in the making of this video...

    can just the low 4 be done? or do the high ones have to be done as well?

    You potentially would changing out the front and rear diff's ring/pinion for a different set to match the gear ratio you are looking for.
    At this point, you wouldn't necessarily change out your transfer case unless you are looking for dual cases (but that is quite a way down the rabbit hole of spending)

    TC L/T, King shocks/bumps, F/R ARB's, RCV Shafts, glassworks fenders/bedsides.
    the screeching tires are from lack of traction, not too high of a gear (if your tires were not spinning ie: too much traction is when you'd definitely need lower gears). im assuming that you have an auto, and in 4low stock gears (even with 33s) are fine for easy wheeling. the chirp when you were turning i assume is from your rear locker being locked.
    i have 35" tires and 4.56 gears and on sandstone like that mine chirps from time to time.
    best way to eliminate that is to air down more.

    your last question leads me to believe that your talking about the transfer case. unless your doing some pretty decent rock crawling a tcase regear would be unnecessary and you would just regear the axles (which would lower both high and low final gear ratios).

    No I don't have an Auto, I have a manual, and no locker yet. I have almost 33's(285/70-17)

    where did you go to get your gears redone, when you got your bigger tires?

    I just want more power in the low end for climbing and rock stuff.

    What did you do to get those tired to fit? did you trim some wheel well off?

    gotcha, i thought i saw a trd offroad in the vid. with an manual lower gears can be much more important.

    I had YotaMasters in corona do my gears. i just took them the axles as i had them out for the suspension upgrades.
    i have a total chaos long travel front kit which is 3.5" wider each side. and with fiberglass fenders and bedsides all i had to trim was my front body mount.

    Well you did see a TRD but it's a TRD Sport.
    I've got the bilsteins in and was wondering how much longer are your long travels in comparison? I think I saw in the video one of my shocks hitting the end of it's travel, which makes me want MORE.
