I remember seeing a write up on how to do the heater core on ttora, and this post confirms that when my heater core craps out, im doing a cab swap with a truck with a good one! Looks way easier to swap the cab then take the entire interior apart LOL!!

Yeah they must literally build the truck around the heater core!!! Don't really care to have to do it again but it wasn't really that hard! Just looks that way!

I got it done this past Saturday/Sunday! I have to admit it probably took a combined time of 10 hours between the two days, but everything is back together and working like it's supposed to so I'm happy. I'd consider myself a very amateur mechanic at best, but I was able to get it done by taking my time, organizing bolts/screws and just remembering where everything came from, making sure every harness was connected back up, etc. It is a job that I would highly recommend having a buddy help with. Mine did it for pizza and beer so it was pretty cheap. After I replaced the heater core I replaced the coolant as well. I think the person I bought the truck from used the wrong coolant in the first place, which was what caused it to corrode. The coolant was orange like the Dex Cool they use on GMs and I'm pretty sure that coolant is corrosive to the OEM heater core.

that's the biggest thing, keeping things bagged and labeled and taking pictures of things as you go.

hope you remembered to take the time to wash and wipe out the air ducts and lube everything that moves in there. often people never think to do that and just want to put it back together still dirty with dust and stale odors in it.

Well done! Nice saving all that money wasn't it!

Were you able to get it out without disconnecting the A/C?

I did mine a few weekends ago by myself in about 4 hours. 5 if you count my lunch break. The posted video helped. My ac needed charging anyway so I ended up taking that all out as well. It's certainly nice not having a constantly fogged windshield.

I did! That honestly took me awhile to do because it was nastyyyyy. There was even still a bit of faint stale coolant smell after I had it all back together, but it's gone now.

It felt great knowing that I didn't spend $850 at a shop! Yes, I was able to get it out without disconnecting the A/C. It was a bit of a PITA, but it came with a little bit of coaxing.

Hello, My passenger floorboard carpet is soaked in what smells like coolant (sorta sweet) but is clear as water. it has been raining pretty hard for the last few days and am curious if this could be a heater core issue or just a solid leak some where else. my driver's side carpet is pretty much dry minus a few spots towards the center console.
