Do you need to know, or care?
I'm just going to say I'm sorry man. Have no opinion on the age part, everyone's different and people of every age have accidents every day.

Yes they are underneath the plastic protection. I was referring to an aftermarket off road bumper. With no plastic surrounds there's nothing to get cosmetically damaged

No other damage to the bumper and should hopefully be a quick fix. I spoke with the dealership and it looks like these come unpainted. I'll be swinging by a few body shops tomorrow to grab a couple estimates to submit to USAA.

If usaa takes care of it at a shop it'll be on Carfax. You could take the cash from usaa, buy the parts yourself and hire a shop yourself to do the paintwork.

Did USAA ask you to do that ? That's the way claims were handled years ago. These days a preferred shop in their program can write the estimate or one of their estimators will write it up and pay you directly. We do that unless a customer lives in a remote area then we'll just ask for one estimate from any shop you choose then review it and pay it as long as it appears reasonable.

I wouldn't worry about Carfax at all. If it shows up (doubtful any shop would report such a minor repair), all you have to do is produce the estimate and show how minor it was. No sane person or dealership would devalue your truck over that superficial damage.

[Rant]Damn straight. And if you are at fault in any accident you get your license suspended for 30 days and have to take a driving class. If you're in an accident and are not at fault, you should still have to take a defensive driving class. Most accidents are preventable if at least one driver is paying attention.[/Rant]

Again, this isn't accurate. I had a CFO at my company back into my Challenger back in 2011 and I had to get the whole front bumper replaced. Nothing showed on carfax. We both had USAA.

Well, I've handled claims for let's see now... about... 10,000 accidents and I would say most of what you said is wrong. Sometimes you can be at fault in an accident and just about any driver in that situation would have had the accident. For instance, an idiot afraid to merge onto the interstate stops dead in the merge lane while you are doing what a driver is supposed to do... get up to speed with traffic on the interstate while looking at the traffic and preparing to merge. You rear end the idiot on the ramp and you are at fault. Doesn't make you a bad driver and you don't need driving school.

I'd say maybe 10 percent of the time if you are not at fault in an accident, you could have and should have avoided it. There's contributory negligence laws in the states that I handle claims and 90 percent of claims have just one at fault driver. In fact, about half of all accidents are rear-end accidents where the at fault party is clearly at fault and the innocent party did absolutely nothing wrong. Yeah, let's send those people to driving school.

    Yikes... talk about an extremist.

Yeah, sorry, I was working in my office when I had that employee back into my challenger as he was going to lunch. I was legally parked AND at the far end of the parking lot where very few park. That in no way is my fault nor could it have been avoided outside of my just not coming to work.
