    I don't know, you're getting cleaner/cooler air up high. It's forced induction and at the 9lbs that the SC pulls I doubt another 3 feet of tube will phase it. Now if there is a lot of bends and restrictions that could be an issue.

    Rough calculation of 9lbs boost and 5500rpm says the engine would need 675cfm. I can't find any flow numbers for ARB's snorkel. Only thing from them I can find is they say their product out flows competitors by 10%.

    Yea thats been discussed before, while you are pulling the same ambient air off the roof and get a little ram air effect, by the time it makes it to the engine, all the turns have killed the ram air effect and probably about the same temps as anything else. And the base SC is pulling about 6 lbs, I see 8 on cold cold mornings and all of my mods. Straight from the dealer I was right around 5 1/2 lbs of boost

    Waste of time for real though. If your worried about minimal performance gains like that put your truck on a diet it'll be more noticeable.

    I would like opionions- (everyone has one, right?)

    About to pull trigger on Icon 2.5 ext travel, icon tubular UCA, Icon 2.0 Custom build ext, non-resi rear- And dakar leafs with top over load removed. Wheelers bumps, headstrong kevlar/stainless brakelines.

    Looking for a 90% capable vehicle for my relatively short Off road/ weekend excursions.

    Thoughts?

    Or I could go with my idea and have the ability to run my CAI for performance gains at any time and be able to turn a snorkel on for water crossings. But I guess thats worthless to you so its worthless to everyone.

    If there is a noticeable enough difference in the amount of air pulled to execute your plan, then a new map would need to be made for the snorkel as well, which would bring the issue of changing maps when flipping the switch. Correct?

    It just boils down to where you want the power. The term CAI is kinda vague here because some tacoma CAI's are more so SRI's compared to Snorkels.

    But regardless, here's a few stripped down concepts that tend to stay true.

    Shorter intake piping: Better throttle response (power off the line) due to less distance to the intake plenum, but generally brings in warmer air from the engine bay robbing top end power.

    Longer intake piping (snorkel in our case): increased throttle 'lag' because of the longer piping but great for top end power because of the colder air.

    Not really since I wouldnt be going in to boost during a water crossing so I wouldn't be worried about the performance gain. TBH I'm gonna do it just to try something new and exciting. Maybe it will work and make me happy, maybe it will be a total waste of money, but all the negative nancies in here can move along lol, because IDGAF about your opinion if you have nothing good to say.

    So my idea would have me pulling from Snorkel and CAI at all times and then cut off flow to the CAI for water crossings.

    More things to fail, to each their own.
    Id go with resi, buy once/cry once. Itll help keep shock fluid temps down in the situations where you might be pushing it a little hard. But if youre a go slow guy then you should be set.
    Which the short ram only has the higher temp when at a slow speed really. Underhood temps are near ambient when moving 20+

    Just a solenoid on the CAI cut out not super worried about it failing. If it does, make sure it fails open


    Agreed though, Buy Once Cry Once, just go for the best their is even if you have to hold off and save for bit longer.

    ......because Physics! You could probably make some ROM estimates on the intake dimensions and inner restriction points and get close to the max flow in a snorkel and then compare to your CAI inlet dimensions / max CFM flow. Let some physics or engineering guy on here help.
