Bed storage container ideas

Another idea you can use is a long bolt/washer from under truck through the bed into the tool box secured with a cotter pin. Makes it able to be removed quickly if needed and will sit flush on the bed floor. I did this with a previous truck and worked perfectly.

Just wanted to add an update to the container that I was using in my Taco; I am now able to lock it.

Those needing a container to fit in your box nice and neat, lockable and removable.

A few people on this forum have CONFIRMED that this does fit under the Tonneau Cover.

Hope this helps someone looking for a nice container solution.

I purchased a 48 Gallon Rubbermaid container for hauling things.
Originally I used a "bungee strap" to hold it closed.
I have since purchased a small cable lock.

This is how I secured it. The bungee strap was just in case the latch came undone while traveling
(Better to be safe than sorry; even though it looks RedNeck)
I only needed ONE ratcheting tie down I purchased at Walmart to secure it in the box.

I've been looking for some camping storage as well. Currently plan to get this one when the time comes.

The larger ones are Plano 1819 Storage Lockers. The smaller one at the tailgate is a Plano 1719 Storage Locker.
With the tool box I couldn't quite fit three side by side across the bed. Without the tool box, I believe a long bed could hold four across.

 

Wow ... that cooler looks awesome ... and fits under the rails ... do you remember the model number? That would be awesome for my trips as well.

 

Sticker on the side says it's a Coleman Xtreme5 62Qt, with wheels.

Nope. It just sits in place. It is a solid hickory board and with the weight of the handyman on it it never even budges . Not even on the roughest trails.

I've thought about that. And your point is probably valid.

 

As a Fire/Medic, I have seen certain things become projectiles and it gets nasty at that point. I had a 1 ton dually that was being a Brodozer with his 4wheeler in the bed...Well he didnt think it was cool to strap it down, and when he struck a suv head on, that 4 wheeler made one helluva mess to clean up

 

Ok. you have convinced me to improve this set up for hiway travel. I bet I could easily have some sort of quickrelease set up in it to stabilize it in place. Thanks for your input.
