Pretty straight forward fix. All my Toyota trucks were wrecks like yours. I love rebuilding trucks with that type of damage.

The frame is diamond shaped from the corner hit. A decent frame shop will straighten it better then new.

I'm pretty sure the lower control arm got bent as well. It is supposed to bend before something more expensive breaks. Again, cheap and easy to replace.

I'm all for dealers doing work on my Toyota vehicles, but when it comes to body work, independent shops seem to do much better work.

How does metal fatigue play into straightening frames? Once the Frame is straightened, is it not weaker? It got bent in the accident and was bent again when straightened.

    Not really.

I use my Tundra to haul a an ;8000 lbs camper. The straightened frame on that is still straight. There is little to fear about straightened frames.

These is a lot of science that goes into metallurgy and types of fatigue and bending stress. You have the right idea, but depending on the properties of the metal fatigue may be out of the question after one or two bends. Some metals once they yield are permanently weakened, others are not. I would assume that since a truck frame is made to bend and twist and move throughout its entire life, that one large excursion of the frame in yield at one place may not be as detremental to the integrety of the frame as one might think. But then again it could...i dont know what steel the fame is made of.

    Couldn't agree more with you.
if you're on the other side of the table and buying my truck at the right price and if you have the skills you have to fix it right...great deal, yes. The problem is for people in my situation with lesser mechanical skills on this side of the table and are losing big $ for jerks not obeying the laws and ins. companies only interested in profits and not compensating innocent drivers fairly for their loss.

Not to derail, but I rebuild these trucks just for my wife and me. We tend to drive them to the 200,000 mile mark. They are usually salvage titled. When we sell, we are always honest and let buyers know they were rebuilt, salvage vehicles. Buyers don't care. We still get the same price if they were clear titled vehicles.

Because of this, I don't believe Toyota trucks suffer from deminished value as bad as other manufacturer s.

Get yours fixed and hold out for top dollar. If someone runs a Carfax report and shows you they know about the accident and tries to low ball you, point out that their are 5 more people that are interested in your truck. If you private sell the truck, you won't have to wait to long to sell. Toyota Tacomas sell stupid fast for stupid money.

    Good luck.

That's kinda how I'm feeling I got rear ended. Luckily nothing this major. 1500 labor, parts, and paint for a new rear bumper going on an 06 xrunner. 1500 for the rear number. Just the rear number. Nothing else damaged. And 12 almost 13 is supposed to fix this guys frame, bed, probably replace fuel lines, fuel tank, axels, new rear end. I'd be threatening to sue if they didn't total it. That's going to be a rebuilt title because the amount of damage to the truck. And I'll be damned if I had to drive something "rebuilt" because some ass wipe totaled my truck and I wasn't at fualt. I got a fit out of the guy that hit me insurance and he went to jail that night for DUI. That should automatically cover me but it took a full blow investigation and 2 weeks to get my check to replace my bumper. Insurance companies are both good and evil I swear. I'm just glad tacomas are so damn sturdy we get to walk away from these accidents.

You won't have to drive a vehicle with a "rebuilt" title. Rebuilt means the vehicle was preciously salvaged. That means your vehicle was replaced, not repaired.

Find an xrunner and someone willing to trade. I don't want to part with mine. I wouldn't call them track trucks at all. They drive nice I won't lie. 90+ on curvy roads is better handling than my friend's 09 mustang. But anything past 110 it's a rough road ahead. Of course trucks aren't built to withstand that kinda speed but it's still fun every now and then.

There's only 3 including mine in my state that I've found through bumping into them. I travel a lot. I ran my vin it was sold from a Toyota dealership in Florida. He owned it from August 2006 till may 2013 a guy I later worked with bought it ended up not liking it he said he drove it for a month parked it and it sat for two years. Then I mentioned at work I was wanting a lower "sport" truck and he showed me some pictures and I bought her a week later. They are a little rarer. I had never heard of an xrunner until I saw this one. Didn't even know what it was until I did research. I've got custom suspension on mine. I plan to lower it another 3 in the front 2 in the rear. The TRD supercharge it. And I'll be about done with mine.
