Frame rust recall

So far, I've found 2 minor things not done. Hot wire to 12v outlet underhood was disconnected and so are both my stock foglights. My day off Fri I'll crawl around under it and give her a go over. Found out that they changed the fluid in my front diff. when they put on the new steering rack. Used Valvoline VV982 Full Synthetic Gear Oil 75w-140. I use Valvoline Durablend 80w-90 so close enough and it's about time for gear oil changes so a bonus! Only have to do transfer case, tranny and rear diff.

When I was looking for a Tacoma all the used ones in Washington, on lots, were imported from Canada and were full of rust. I wonder how long until those trucks start failing also. Scary to think about. I wonder when the first 2016 will need frame replacement.

 

Hi guys, been a while since I posted. I have my appointment next Monday at Toyota of Greenville here in SC. Does anyone have any feedback on this dealership? I did hunting and they're the biggest one in my area, and according to my service rep they've done over 20 of these jobs. Hopefully they won't mess mine up.

One big question for those of you who've had it done: How much underhood and in the cab do they mess with? I have done a lot to my '06. It has subs in the cab, and lots of wires going from inside the cab through the firewall to the battery. I also have HID headlights I've wired myself, along with an autostart, and even an LED light bar. On top of that it has the TRD Supercharger, so space under the hood is minimal due to all these wires and intercooler hoses and so forth. I'm removing what simple things I can to make it easier for them, but in the course of this job, will they mess with those things?

Just trying to get a better understanding from those who've had it done about what I can expect. Thanks!

What parts have you folks brought to the dealer and have them put on during the reassembly? I have a 4WD 2005, going to do shocks for sure. Any recommendations?

 

Just got the call and appointment scheduled for my truck to go in on Monday.

 

So I'm a 1st gen but can I play? Truck's been at the dealership waiting on a frame since December 28th.

 

Got my truck back today.. so far so good, ill check it out more tomorrow in the day light Took it in Nov 20 2015, got it back Jan 20th 2016 so just 2 months total time for me....

 

Why would it? Sounds like they rushed the job and as you said, did the bare minimum. If Toyota is paying for 41 hours of work and the dealer does it in 20 then they make a nice profit without having to deal with customer hassle. That is, of course, as long as you don't need to bring it back with problems. At least you don't have to deal with a rusty frame anymore.

 

Day 8 update.

So the dealer is telling me it will take quite a while to get my frame. Mine being a 2005 access cab 2wd 4cyl auto. They have assured me however that since it will probably run out of inspection (March) before they do it I will be in a truck if I so choose on toyos dime.

 

I suspect sales were down in December because of delays in getting 2016s.

 

Well my taco will be getting a new frame. Dealer tells me 5 to 6 months wait on the frames. I asked if the 5 frames in their yard were ordered 5 months ago and he says "not really, I have those frames but cant get the rear springs for them" " the rear spring recall has been going on for 1-1/2 years and there are no spring available"

What kind of shit is that? Theres a frame and rear spring recall and no frames or springs to replace the damaged ones with??
come on.

 

It's frustrating . But how many of these try is are in existence . Just think of how much whining the guys are going to do that put this off until the last day. If you have a way to get to western pa I can probably get you springs of you can get reimbursed .

Hmmm, all the frames outside my dealer had springs already on them. Didn't realize they were assembled at the dealer.

 

My truck went in for inspection 8/19/2015

 

5 months, guess they're not coming in much faster.

 

Mine isn't in horrible condition. I'm actually surprised they managed to put a hole in it.

 

For the money they get from Toyota, I'll bet some dealers will manage to get a hole in about anything coming through the door, especially this late in the game. Turned out to be a real money maker for some of them. But why they will put a new frame under a truck with 170K miles on the clock instead of some kind of voucher for a new truck to the owner is beyond me.

 

I'm not complaining. It brings up resale value of my truck. Not that I ever plan to sell.
