First, I was pretty clear that its an opinion/theory; pick you panties out of your crack.

Unless you know exactly how the Trucks ECU measures and how Toyota defines "Heavy Load" and you know exactly how the dyno was setup and exactly how the run was conducted, you're just speculating. The difference is you are spouting off like you know something no one else does, when in fact you know about just as much as I do and you are speculating just as much.

A'int nobody got time fo dat!

Panties? Pointing out that you're incorrect doesn't mean I really give a shit. Just making sure someone else doesn't take your info as the way it is. We are usually here to learn from one another - not absorb disinformation. Sorry if you got your feelings hurt.

I'm certain Toyota considers full throttle as "heavy load". Dispute this?
I have a pretty good idea how the dyno was set up. I likely have more Dynapack experience than anyone else in the country. But there isn't really anything in the dyno setup that affects this particular discussion.
How the run was conducted? Are you saying the test was at partial throttle? I doubt it based on the output numbers (why would it be, due to the point of the test), but it is possible I guess.
I'm not speculating - if I am, I will say so.

Well now we need to get a dyno done on a DynoJet and a Mustang. :D

After reading what VW did for the 2.0 diesel, I wonder if some simple tuning or mapping could garner much better MPG and horsepower.

In this day and age, manufacturers make all kinds of tuning decisions to meet emissions standards. I would be hard to convince that this engine isn't capable of more power with just a different (and still safe and reliable) tune.

I did the same thing too, but then after i dingd up my truck with only 2k miles it made me feel like crap. So i fixed it and keep it mostly on the road now. Plus i love the concept of a sleeper, especially one that is usefull all the time.

I think the most important thing is to consider what everyones needs/wants are. Even with a respectable income as an engineer, I cant afford or justify a sports car in addition to the tacoma. I came from a relativly low income family and have never inherited anything. Went to school and paid for it with loans.

I drive my friends around all the time and i am always loading into the bed or towing, snowmobiles, atvs and trailers. I also tow my 21' boat. This vhicle is the perfect compromise to do all those things. Plus i hate diving full size trucks, not my thing. I have always owned small and midzised trucks and suvs with the exception of one car.

For the reasons stated above for myself or other people like me, having a truck that does it all is the name of the game. If i need speed....i need my truck to deliver. If i need to commute in 12" of snow, i need that same truck to do it.

I kid, I kid, your truck is badass. My Evo is tuned at 26psi on a stock block and that's child's play to my tuner. They like to say something along the lines of "Boost starts at 36psi"... but then they prove it on the drag strip, so I just shut up and enjoy my semi-daily driver.

I understand where your coming from, but I'm of the opinion that there is very little one could extract out of the modern engines with complex electronics. 20-30 years ago engines were easier to work on and tune. You could get better performance for your money with older tech. But I get the fun factor with modding our vehicles, I'm just more selective about which vehicle I spend my money on.

Today's engines require you to completely bypass the oem electronics in order to extract more performance.

If your serious about tuning your Tacoma, I suggest you take a serious look at products like AEM ECU's.. They work on many Toyotas and Lexus and could potentially give you a nice boost for a small investment.

Just remember, performance is expensive no matter what vehicle you have.

And more often than not, as performance goes up, reliability goes does. Take it from me, it's a bit unnerving to be driving a car that is likely to blow the engine thanks to all the money you sank into it. Don't screw up the Toyota reliability.

True, that's why race engines get rebuilt after each weekend.
