Hope everyone is doing well. I am in the market for a new Tacoma. I have been lurking on these great forums coming up on a year now. I have noticed there are some concerning problems with the new Tacoma. Hoods separating from their frames because of faulty adhesives. Weird sounds coming from the front remedied by duct tape covering holes, engine oil consumption and harsh vibrations coming through the dash. These are to name a few. I understand there are to be problems with the 1st year of new vehicles. I am sure most of these vary by trim. Most are few and far between. Nothing would piss me off more than going to the dealer with one or more of these items and getting the standard B.S runaround. They tell you this is considered "normal". If your dealer and Toyota are working with you to solve these problems, that is great. But I think you really should read this Car And Driver article titled " Lemon Aid: What you need to know about vehicle lemon laws " . Even if your vehicle is perfect, this article is really interesting and incredibly informative. It give you a step by step way to understand and use the U.S Lemon Laws.
Here is the C&D link- http://blog.caranddriver.com/lemon-aid-what-you-need-to-know-about-vehicle-lemon-laws/
Here is the link to find the state by state lemon laws - http://www.autosafety.org/lemon-laws-state
In a nut shell, the article explains what you should do, how to document and how to find a lawyer who specializes in these matters. It also gives advice on what kind of National Association for Consumer Advocates lawyer to use . Meaning one who will take on your case: " NACA lists attorneys by state and area of expertise, which makes it easy to come up with a list of candidates. Then get on the phone and find one that seems like somebody you can work with. And find one who works on a contingency basis, rather than by the hour. The bill can get really high really fast. " NACA attorney Link- http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-attorney
So if you have a problem, even if it is the first problem. You should...
    1) Ask the dealer to write up problem even if they can’t duplicate the problem every time. Get a written receipt from the dealer. Make sure it contains details. Document, document and document!
    2) If the first visit doesn’t fix the problem, then it’s time to pull out your owner’s manual and get the carmaker’s toll-free customer service number.
    3) After you’ve dropped the car off for the second visit, call the manufacturer. Then you’ve given them notice. Document again. Write down everything. Dates, times, details, etc...
    4) If it comes back a third time, then you hire an attorney. You’ve given them time to fix it, now it’s time to go to litigation.
See links above for the article, lemon laws state by state and NACA attorney help. I think one of the biggest problems is the lack of how you should proceed help out there. Most folks will simply sell their vehicle or live with a crappy unpleasant problem(s). I really think this will help the minority of owners who really do get a lemon and do not understand how to proceed. I think Toyota makes great reliable vehicles for the most part. We have a 99 RX300 and 09 Tacoma in our family. Great trouble free vehicles. Hope this helps a few folks and simply informs the rest. All the best......Steve
