I want a 4 cylinder Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport, but can't find one! I do not want a V6 under any circumstances, and everytime I find a dealer which let's you "build your own," the 4 cylinder Double Cabs are always 4x2, no TRD Sport option, or V6, SR something. What is reason Toyota don't match the more reliable 2.7 4 cylinder with the better riding Sport in double cab configuration?

TRD only comes with a V6. Have you tried building a truck on Toyota website? Sounds like maybe an SR5 will be as close as you can get with 4 banger.

Why do you want a 4cyl but a double cab 4x4? 0-60 time of 3 days

I do not care about speed, or towing, and the 4 cylinder is more reliable, better mileage, lower insurance rates, and less Top heavy than the 6.

This. You do understand just how painfully slow a double-cab 4-cyl truck will be, right?

Also, the mileage difference will be negligible. I have a friend with a regular cab 4x4 5-speed 2.7 and there is barely any MPG difference between his truck and mine.

I think they made some for gen 2 in double cab, but they weren't popular

Correct, my buddy has one. I laugh every time a school bus passes him on a two lane on ramp to the freeway

Just tried on Toyota Website. The option I desire was not available. I love the reliability of the Tacoma since it is immortal, but the 4 cylinder is the engine Toyota never had problems with vs the V6. I plan to keep my Tacoma 20 years and all I drive is hwy. I had 4 Toyotas and the ones with the 4s never gave me a problem. The 2 V6s had some small issues, nothing heavy, but too many for a Toyota.

The more reliable 2.7? on a double cab 4x4? Sure let's put the weakest motor on the heaviest body.

I went through two 2.7L on my '02 Ext Cab 1st gen. No way I'd buy a 2.7 on any 2nd gen. Not knocking those who have it but it's too small of a motor for anything other than a 5 lug Tacquito.

How can you harp on the reliability of the v6? Even members who drive the most don't have more than 15k on the new 3.5 yet

I love the 2016's look. It is quite similar, but just a little better to look at and ever so slightly more modern. My cousin has nearly 500,000 miles on his 2005 Tacoma. Just 4 cylinder. Just unmatched quality.

Largish truck..... small engine for mpg..... but wont that engine be working harder than a v6 and thus not getting the premium mpg? Just a fart in the wind, I may be wrong

I speak of historically. And...if you look at the Toyota High Mileage forum, the cars with the really high miles on original, un-rebuilt engines tend to be the 4s.
