Going to replace all three bulbs in each tail light tomorrow. Any recommendations for a reverse light? I like bright.

I'll need to be able to pick it up locally too. Might get Amazon involved sometime down the road.

Hey guys another question, looking at investing in new shocks/coils. Was wondering what would be the best bang for buck sort of deal, along with possible levelling kit. Truck is 2007 Trd off-road double cab short box. Best place to buy locally preferably HRM area. Thanks !

My friend, you have excellent taste in trucks!

How do you plan to drive your truck? Do you want to raise the front just to level it off, or are you looking for ground clearance for terrain etc.? Leveling can be done simply, locally, and relatively cheaply if you do not plan to push the limits on trails. If you need to maximize your entry angles, frame height, suspension travel, etc. it really matters how you do the suspension work. The second lift can range widely in price and may be very difficult to do properly with locally sourced parts. Spending money on those parts is a complete waste though if you are primarily driving on proper roads.

    Welcome to Tacoma World!

Thanks for the fast response, for now I will mainly be using my "off-road truck" as a highway cruiser. Mainly too and from work.
I would like to have the front level with the rear. Going on trails as of now are not on my mind. Just looking for something to lift the nose up and would like to replace all four shocks at once.

Once again thanks for the quick reply!

So, first off I am not even close to the most informed person around here... I was asking these same questions less that a year ago when I bought my '07 doublecab. Also, I chose not to explore the spacer lift option which is probably the best for your application.

I do not think you need to replace springs. That is a lift that will dramatically improve off-road performance, but adds price and complexity and so far as I know everyone around here who does that orders the parts from far off lands. I got my springs from Headstrong Off-road in California.

    Here are some options:

Most people level using a spacer that stacks on top of the front struts. Basically, it's just a chunk of machined metal. It does not improve perfomance, but does level the truck. You retain your existing coil springs and do not need special shocks. This can be purchased and installed locally, I would probably start looking at Action Truck.

Bilstein (who make the stock Tacoma TRD shocks) also make an upgrade version that has an adjustable setting for the front sets. This setting allows you to lift the front in 4 increments from stock height to about 2 1/2"... which is about level. This is a good option since you need to replace shocks anyway. I am not sure you can buy them over a local counter, I ordered mine from some where in BC. Let is know if you want that order info. You are looking for Bilstein 5100, they make them specific to each truck model.

Last option, you could do your lift through a new set of springs... you would probably need to order them in, but you will get more out of them if you (like me) find you are interested in doing some trail runs as time goes by. Just to be clear, your truck can do a lot of trails as is.

Does you truck carry much load in the box? How do your rear springs look? I found I had broken leafs in both sides. There is a recall in the works for them. Your truck must be from the States though?

    Sorry for the long reply.

The ordering info on the company from BC would be great. With the adjustable fronts is ride comfort lost when levelled out? More or less as say compared to the spacer method. And yes it's a California truck, how could you tell? Thank again for all this great info

Here is the link to Essex Distributors / Bilstein Canada: http://www.bilsteincanada.com/

Ride changes with every adjustment made to suspension. Some people will tell you it is better with the leveling, some say worse, many probably can't tell the difference. When I put on slightly stiffer and slightly longer springs I definitely noticed a change, and while I am quite happy with it I cannot say that it is better. In my opinion all of the things we are talking about will reduce on-road handling somewhat, but I really do not think it makes a significant difference. The Bilstein 5100 leveling method is definitely not worse than the spacer lift.

As far as I know they never sold any doublecab TRD Off-Road in Canada, so I figured yours must be from the U.S.A.

    I like my Amazon stuff!!!

Go Billy 5100s! Easiest and cheapest/most cost effective way to raise the nose and retain stock/slightly better than stock ride.

Yes, will do it when they come in, also wondering if replacing the top mounts would be a good idea, not sure if they are known to wear prematurely or not

Some guys replace them, I believe Toyota wants like 400 dollars for both, so depending on whether you want to spend that cash, or find them cheaper.

As with the FJ that top mount rarely gets worn as far as I know. Many reuse them. Often times you will hear of someone selling their suspension.....but normally they keep the caps.

On the FJ a 2in spacer levels and allows for 285's (what I did) but I am assuming the Tacoma needs more lift to take a 33? I have 286K on mine without issue and have actually considered a daystar kit. (2.5 fr and 1.5 rear). But with the Billys under $400 that just might be better. Things to ponder.
