I think this is my first authored thread with multiple pages *newbie excitement*.

 

Two blanks? A gun is not used to scare a bad guy by shooting blanks. You should only draw your weapon if and when you are ready and willing to use deadly force. If you pull a gun, and so does the bad guy, your dead. Your blanks wont do crap against anything he is puting down range. You dont have time to think about needing a third round. Your life, and that of your family, depends on how you can react in time of threat. Shooting blanks, or even having them in your gun, can get you killed. Showing the threat your weapon will only cause a reaction. You pull a gun, he runs, threat is eliminated.You pull a gun, he pulls a gun, you shoot a blank, he shoots you in the chest. Carry one in the chamber and be ready to defend yourself without having to take extra steps. The longer it takes you to ready your weapon, the more time the bad guy has to kill you.

 

OK i am new to the CCW world getting mine the end of january.

But i am from the school of "if your going to pull a weapon you better intend to use it". So therefore PUT ON IN THE CHAMBER...

IF some one sneaks up on you and says "gimme your keys" and you didnt see them but can feel cold steal in your back...Last thing i am going to want to do is Rack a round in the chamber? Two guns pointed MINE BETTER be prepared to fire! This is a no brainer...You pull that puppy out you better be ready to use it if you need to...Cause i am not about to wait around to see if his has one in the chamber...

I see where you're coming from but I don't like shooting people. Had to do it once and didn't like it at all. I'm from a rough area and from what I've experienced the people that are stupid enough to try and carjack you are not good shots, not in the least. I'm not worried about what they're sending downrange because its not hitting anything anyway. As soon as the first shot is fired the automatic reaction is go for cover, even if they do shoot while going to cover a carjacker is not trained at all and couldn't hit my truck on the run let alone me. On the off chance that some carjacker actually can shoot...then I'll let someone say they were right in judging me because i don't favor shooting people. My family is just fine, the guns in the house are always loaded and ready and they are never in my truck.

 

We all have our thoughts on what to do. No one wants to shoot someone. Ill leave it at that. I dont want to turn this into a huge debate. We all have a choice and we can do what we wish.

If i am carrying/concealing a gun i know how i will have it loaded...However in the home situation...I honestly can say I am torn...I feel a gun should be locked up unloaded...especially if you have kids...But if you need self defense in the home that would make it tuff...

I just cant bare the thought knowing I have a loaded gun (hidden in a drawer etc) and some kid getting their hands on it...(i dont have kids but I woudl still lock it up)

I am looking into the finger print locking safe for my closet...Just gotta get my hands on it and it pops open and can store up to 15 prints...Keep teh gun and a loaded mag in that out of site and the hands of the uneducated..

 

If you are going to have a loaded gun in the home, lock it up. No reason you cant have a loaded gun in the house and not keep it safe. If you have kids, make sure they cant get to it. Here in cali you are responsible and can be charged with a crime if a kid gets hurt or someone even steal your gun. My dad always took me shooting, taught me how to be responsible, and I knew the trouble I would get in if I ever touched the guns when he wasnt around. I think teaching them about the guns can sometimes take to interest away from them and make them less likely to snoop around. None the less, keep them locked up. There are plenty of safes out there that are secure, yet still easily accessable.

 

I was raised the same way...I wouldnt even have thought to touch the guns in the house without supervision...I guess education early is the best thing and you dont have to worry...I guess there are just too many horror stories about kids that havn't been taught properly.

I would be proud to sya my kids know where it is and know how to use it if they ever needed...I plan on teaching my wife everything about shooting when i pick up my new glock...

How depressing would it be knowing something bad happened in your house with your wife or kids home alone...and a loaded gun was available but they just didnt know what to do with it...Make me sick to think about...

 

I can see it now...weekly family "game night" gets substituted for Family "night at the range"

 

I had a situation once...it was a few years back...
I was staying the night at my GF's apt (2nd floor) when we heard the sliding glass door open up...I have never been so scared in my life...She of course has no weapn like objects in her bedroom...So i grab a pint glass off the night stand and go investigate....I sneak down the hall in my boxers, I was flat against the wall waiting to see who walks around the corner pint glass cocked and ready to smash someone in the face...

When my brother-in-law walks around the corner...I have never felt so relieved/pissed off in my whole life...

I never in my life want to experience that helpless feeling again...I have always had guns around growing up but since i moved away for school dont have any. I do have a 75lb pitbull at the moment that will deturr most individuals so it helps. but my best friend and i are getting hand guns over the holidays.

 

shit...i live in california. if i get into a potential carjack situation, all i can do is flip open my coin drawer, and throw change into the perp's eyes! "let's see how your eyes can handle, $2.11! take that bitch!"

 

I guess that's another way to use the coin tray to deter criminal activity.

What about a location that isn't accessible by children and hidden but easily obtained? For example a higher shelf between some clothes or something like that.

 

I liked my ideas better. Maybe you could convince the bad guys it's a taser and still make an escape...

 

Or run into the garage. haha.
