I know I'm just kidding. A break with two parallel lines is a capacitor in electrical diagrams.

Ask me what else I know about electrical (pls don't).

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhbhhhhhh those are connectors. And the connectors are green. I draw steam lines not electrical circuits, so I don't really know any of the electrical symbols. It's more a diagram to keep myself organized

Nah man I'm only kidding. Couldn't make a circuit with capacitors to save my life. All I know is short circuiting wire makes for good welding

    What does a relay do?

It's basically another switch on the switch. The switch in the dash will turn on the relay and send power to the lights. The swith will pull like .8 amps and the relay will pull (depending on what you're running) 5 amps. It's just safer.

That just sounds more complicated. But I believe you.

So. the relay is the real switch, in that it makes the connection on the circuit that feeds the power to the lights. The switch on the dash activates the relay?

also means that actual switch is not handling a bunch of juice. No heat. If there is a short or something fails the relay will protect the switch if that makes sense....lol. Clear as mud eh?

Electrical scares the bejeezus out of me

Relays are fun. You can run thinner gauge wire to your switches which is nice when you're running it through the firewall.

Now I am hooked, and I am trying to think of something I need to install that needs a relay. This could be a problem...

I'd run a cb on a relay. No issues with it. Could be all fun and switched that way!
