Why would you put a $600 lift on a $25k truck? Why not do it right the first time and go long travel?

Where do you draw the line? What's the minimum amount you have to spend for a lift on a $25k truck to please the internets?

Going from $200-600 isn't the same as the $8K jump to long travel

    Just sayin

That's actually not even true. If you really do understand the geometry of it, adding a 1" spacer actually increases wheel travel. I'll be glad to post pictures to prove this if you disagree and I'll view any proof you have of your claim.

Ok how about mid travel? I'm just trying to find where the dollar limit is for an acceptable lift. What if I get a good deal on 5100's and it comes out to $250? Then I'm screwed. :homer:

^^^stock Bilstein shock shaft cycled to the bump stop with a 1" spacer on the top hat. Still shaft left so the bump stops are still the bump stops.

I get the point you are making . For the record I don't care if somebody wants to put hockey pucks on their $25K truck

    It just won't be me

Because $600 will buy you springs that are the correct length and diameter to achieve lift safely and effectively, rather than preloading stock springs that were not designed to provide lift. Also included in that $600 are shocks that are valved correctly for increased spring length and rate.

Nothing about this is for "pleasing the internets." It's not about a "minimum amount" either. $200 seems to get you a shitty piece of metal to throw in your struts and $600 could get you a properly designed spring/shock combo to achieve lift. If the 5100/OME combo was $200 then that would not change the fact that they are leaps and bounds better than spacers.

Extended travel icons and uniball upper arms are leaps and bounds better than that. Do it right the first time? :goingcrazy:

You're right - because the Icons and uniball UCA's are built for performance. 5100's and OME are entry level but you fail the realize that they are the exact same concept as Icons - springs and shocks properly designed for the application.

Not a piece of metal sitting on OEM struts.

Actually, according to Bilstein the OME coils are NOT designed for their 5100 series shocks and some shops won't even install them due to this fact. Bilstein doesn't even warranty the shock if you install an OME Spring on it.

They just aren't warrantied when mixed , thats not too surprising for a manufacturer to not warranty something that is used in conjunction with another manufacturer's product . That doesn't mean they aren't designed for lifting applications .

I didn't say they aren't designed for lifting. The manufacturer says they aren't designed for the use with aftermarket coils and don't warranty their shocks if used with them.

Ya because bilstein would rather sell you their stuff rather then you spend your money on a competitors product

Uhhh so we agree? The shocks aren't designed to be used with aftermarket coils, therefore they aren't "properly designed for the application".

You said Bilsteins aren't designed to be used with OME
