I think there might be a GoPro mount down there you can utilize.

Or just use a paint marker. Are people really this paranoid over an oil change? lol

No. I'm confused, are you quoting me because you agree, or you think I take my rig to Jiffy Lube?

Becasue that happens a lot..... I have never in all my years had that happen or know anyone who has had that happen. The risk is extremely small. 19 year old kid in his new job might actually be better than an old salt who hates doing oil changes.....Just saying. My neighbor is a 35 year ASE tech. He said the young guys are usually better at routine services than the older guys, who hate doing them

I have always had my dealers change my oil (The savings is not worth the hassle) and never had an issue. I even let WalMart do it on occasion before the 0-20 Weight synthetic. Harley does my bike. MAzda does the MX5 Honda does the CRV and Toyota does the Tacoma.

I have never had a reason not to trust a dealer doing an oil change. I had Toyota do mine at 1200 miles. They paid for it as one of my oil changes.

Think I'll do the same. Don't know what I'll do for a detail shop now. I saw my regular guy has his building up for sale. When he told me he had to make $1,000 a day just to pay the mortgage on his Main St. shop, I figured I would not see him for my spring wax job.

I never said anything about the quality of work of young lube techs in my post, someone earlier did. I just said what will happen to your truck if they screw up.

With that being said, I've seen lube techs do some silly stuff.

Walmart and Harley lmao. One charges 19.99 and the other 200 plus. I know, because I own a flhtk. Your time must be very important if you let the Harley dealer do it. Either that or you're one of those who can't do it yourself and say things like it's not worth the hassle.......oh, wait.

Nowadays they use a laptop to check your trans fluid level, since most new vehicles dont have transmission dipsticks anymore. So they never would have touched the things you mentioned.

So go get your favorite color fingernail polish from dollar store. Mark the seam of the plugs and filter casing.

In the aircraft industry, we use "torque seal" http://www.amazon.com/TORQUE-SEAL-Y...F8&qid=1453514039&sr=8-2&keywords=torque+seal It is inexpensive and easy to apply. It is applied after hardware has been torqued so you know if it has been tampered with after it was torqued. The same concept can apply here. You apply a bead across the seam where the housing unscrews from the assembly. Once it dries (it dries quickly), if the housing is moved, the torque seal will crack, fall off, will no longer be lined up, etc. If it is still in tact, then you know the housing was not removed.

Marking the filter housing is probably not going to work. The housing uses an o-ring to seal not a gasket. So when it's snugged down....that's it. The index mark will line backup every time. It's not like something with a gasket that can be tightened a little more and show a difference in the index mark. I know...I've done dozens of these cartridge filter changes.

Yeah I did all three holes once. It's not worth the hassle to me. I get it done for $115 at Beach House Harley. Like to peruse the showroom while I wait. The 5000K check ups are far and few between as I don't put a lot of miles on the bike.

I don't view service departments as scam artists. Always had good luck.....Unless they are selling something I don't need like Nitrogen......

    *Update*
So I marked the filter canister and placed white out on where the wrench goes. Took it to the dealer and waited about 1hr 15 min. Got home checked to see. Turns out they changed the whole canister. No mark to be seen at all. I found this very strange but hell I can't complain. They did a good job. I'll finish out my free oil changes, then I'll do everything myself. Thanks for the help everyone!
