I hear ya. We get heavy lake effect snow here and I will tell you it is no joke. It's a love/hate with the snow for me but I don't think I'd ever move away from the snow.

I have to wonder...is it more common for northern states to get snow from the beginning of a weather event like this, while states like Kentucky and Tennessee get freezing rain/sleet and ice BEFORE it transitions to all snow?
Do places like New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts get as much ice? Just wondering...:notsure:

I'm guessing lower ambient temps in the northern states equals less sleet/ice and more snow

We usually just get snow in Pittsburgh, especially when we have these 2'+ accumulation storms. If anything, it is the opposite regarding ice. In the coming days and weeks, the snow will melt during the day and re-freeze at night, causing very icy/slushy roads. If it happens to snow on top of that, things get very interesting.

Its mostly snow here, with occasional abnormal temps causing freezing rain. Last year was one of our coldest ever and so far this year has been one of our warmest winters to date. The snow itself isn't the problem for driving, it's the salt melting it and causing slushy conditions.

The snow really doesn't bother me , which is funny because I'm not from here , I'm from Ocean City ,Md. The locals do more complaining ..lol
We just get so much snow through the winters here that you just trudge along with it , that much in a short time does pose problems but nothing that can't be dealt with .
My 75 year old neighbor had himself dug out and was on his way to the weekly McDonald's meeting before 8 am Saturday ..lol

Yea I understand some of these states don't have plows and/or means to deal with the snow but for us, 2ft+ is just a Tuesday.

After the record snowfall in Buffalo I'm sure there is nothing that can impress you lol. I remember the Internet flooding with pictures of a solid wall of snow right out the front door.

We got 30" in the northern VA area....DC has lost its mind! Snowplows coming through the secondary streets with their plows up, not even plowing. Why cant they get shit right?!

Didnt DC shut down after inches of snow fell? Is that the most you've ever had in one snowfall? That seems like a lot for VA.

VA/DC sees about one good snowfall per year. While 29" of snow in DC is definitely a record snow fall, 12-18" dumps are normal enough. I grew up in that area for near 30 years. Any amount of snow shuts down the area as they are unequipped to handle it.

20" for Morgantown is probably close to a record. When I lived there we had 11" on Saturday, 3-4" during the week, and then 12" on Friday. Shut everything down. WVU closed for first time in many years. 2 buddies and I drove out to a farm near Mannington to camp and hunt grouse. We gave up on the grouse after trudging a 1/2 mile through waist deep snow. I heard a report that Harper's Ferry got 40" but never heard a confirmation.

WVU closed because of snowfall when I was a freshman in the spring semester of '03. I'm not sure how much snow we got, but it was a lot.

30" this Saturday. Near Seven Springs in PA, in the mountains just northeast of Morgantown.

Please send the snow to Seattle. I haven't gotten to drive in snow in years. Very sad
