This is why you don't drive around town in 4wd

Not a tacoma. But I've seen numerous threads where people have talked about driveline bind while driving around town in 4wd. Here are the consequences.

Only the case, LF stub axle, and pinion yoke are savable. Everything else is junk

I understand, I did the same for thirty years. I don't do that now and my hands have recovered nicely. When you get to be 50+ years old, this stuff will catch up with you.

 

have you not seen the "my truck makes noise in parking lot in 4wd" threads? I don't work on toyotas so its hard to get pics of them. Just posted this as more of an eye opener than anything.

a bind on dry pavement is a bind. Doesn't matter if it was engaged for 5 seconds or 5 hours

 

When should you use 4low or 4 high ? What conditions warrant its use?

 

high, any time on snow or mud. Low, off road when high torque is needed such as climbing hill or obstacle. No 4wd mode should be used on dry/wet pavement, only on snow/ice covered.

 

Um that's what happens when stupid people driv.

And there are still people who want to be able to lock their diffs at >40mph.
