Torque wrenches

Looking to finally buy my first torque wrench. It will be specifically to work on my Tacoma and my Lexus IS 300. Any recommendations as to brand, size, specifications?

 

Budget?

 

Well..... I believe in the old saying you get what you pay for. Something appropriate for the type of work I mentioned. Something that will last. I don't want junk that's unreliable. I'd rather buy the right tool and be happy with it for a long time. Having said that, within $100?

 

If it's for mostly bigger work then I recommend the Tekton 10-150 lb.ft. model. It's super affordable and decent quality. For smaller work Craftsman sells a 20-250 in.lb. model for a decent price as well. Here's a link to the Tekton one, you'll likely use it more than an in.lb. one.

Never owned a Torque Wrench and got the one listed above. Really nice to me.

 

Honestly I bought one at HF over 3 years ago and have used it plenty of times and am very pleased with it.

 

i have 2 kobalt ones and i really like them, seem to be good quality and i don't think they were unreasonable for torque wrenches. they had digital version for $30 more but i didn't think it was worth the money

 

I went this route also, mainly because my needs to torque stuff are infrequent.

That said, in researching torque wrenches before I bought I found a website testing the HF torque against a half dozen others (Craftsman, SnapOn, etc,.) and it was found to be no less accurate than any of them. I went for it and haven't had any issues, a friend has had his for at least a decade and no issues with it either, including engine building where torque specs are a little more important.

$100 should get you a nice one, if you're looking to spend near that amount. Even if HF isn't your preferred brand, you'll likely find a great product for half that.

 

I'd say 99% of my tools come from HF. I have never had any problems with any of my tools from them. And they always have coupons so the prices already being cheap are a plus.

 

I have a craftsman 1/2" drive that goes up to 250lb/ft. Lifetime warranty and reasonable price. I have no complaints.

Every garage should have a bottle of anti seize, and a torque wrench, if nothing else...

 

I got a 2002 last year with only 80k miles. The Florida sun has destroyed the clear coat but it drives great. What a car! So much fun to drive. And I can fix the paint later.

Auto or Manual? It looks like its in good condition!

 

Unfortunately, it's auto. In person you can see the bad clear coat much better. But, that's cosmetic. It's fast and responsive and fun.

 

Cool, I think the auto is as good as the manual in these. The manual feels a bit like a truck transmission, not good not bad.

 

May depend on how you drive a stick, but I've never driven a manual IS. Either way, I'm happy with mine. The new ones are freaking expensive. I'll be enjoying this one for years to come hahahaha

 

Nice car. I have a Manual Sport Design. The Manual IS300 has a W55. So the transmission is a truck transmission out of the old 2WD pickups. Most guys upgrade to the MK3 Supra Turbo R154 Transmission. Essentially the same as the manual in our Tacoma's just a 2WD version. But the auto is good as well. 2001's and 2002's models had a recall on the ECU for shifting points though. Guys Run Turbo's on the auto with just a upgraded Torque Converter.

 

+1 for harbor freight one. Its like $10-$20 and has a life time warranty. Like someone else mentioned, a big test was done showing the HF one was more accurate than expensive wrenches.

I've used mine on my lugs nuts and the transmission fluid bolt on my car since I bought one in Dec. It works great,.

 

Are you actually a LROR rep? Just curious because you don't have a vendor tag.
