Hi all. I'm getting tranny fluid dripping from the inspection hole in the bell housing. Any thoughts on what it could be from?

    Manual or automatic?

How did you know it's tranny fluid?

Automatic. Changed the radiator and and topped the tranny fluid off . Heated it up to temp and had a trickle out the overflow. Then a few days later I noticed red fluid dripping from the plastic clip on the bottom of the bell housing. Wiped everything off good and started the truck again. A few minutes later tranny fluid dripping from the plastic clip in the inspection hole on the bell housing.

I don't know the routing of the cooling lines to the trans, or how they attach to the trans. I'm picking that area because that's what would have had some disturbance with the radiator change out.

If it's not related to that, the only thing that quickly comes to mind would be an input shaft seal.

V6 and the 4 cylinders have different transmissions. Not sure if that might play in somehow, or if the basic configuration is similar.

@gearcruncher is one of our resident transmission gurus. I suspect he'll be able to offer some guidance in this case.

How much fluid did you add to "top off" the trans?

That's what I am wondering. I don't thinks its as easy as filling it to the overflow plug to check trans level. I bet it got overfilled and its pushing some out. That or a trans line got disturbed when the radiator was installed.

I filled it by the guide on here . Wire in the obd port until the transmission light came on and had a steady trickle out the overflow. I'm hoping I put a little too much in and now a seal. Don't really feel like dropping the tranny.

I traced all the lines out and they look fine . I'll take a pic of it once I get a chance . We got 2 feet of snow in Brooklyn so finding a dry spot to crawl under the truck might be an issue.

Dripping when I start the car. Not when it's parked for a few days . I've been checking every time I get in the truck . Sometimes it leaks and others it don't. It's driving me crazy.

My suggestions is use non chlorinated brake cleaner to clean all evidence of where it has leaked. Then check frequently to see where it's originating for sure. Then list possible causes from that area.
Gotta to have accurate information to go on when troubleshooting and a good place to go to when you're at your wits end is the beginning.

Yeah I'll clean it all off . It's definitely coming from the hole in the bell housing . If I put to much fluid in would it leak from there?

I have no idea, but I think the only way fluid will leak from there is via the hollow alpine that the torque converter slips over.
If feeds the torque converter with Tranny fluid.
