Maybe a couple of these mounted to the rail system behind the cab? Would only take up minimal bed space. No pump or anything though.

sounds like you're thinking about this backwards.

I fill the aux tank with 15 gallons via the newly installed filler hose on the bed rack. then I fill up the factory tank from the stock fill location. I run the fuel needle down to ~1/4 of a tank, and then I flip a switch that pumps the fuel from the aux tank into the factory tank, yielding a full tank on the fuel gauge.

the fuel never goes from the factory tank to the aux tank.

My first thought on designing this was to keep only one filler neck, for legal/inspection and avoiding unnecessary conversations with NJ state troopers. That means I need to transfer gas both ways, requiring at least 2x the plumbing you have.

Your design is far simpler and easier, I was wondering if you had considered anything else, or just started with the KISS principal?

Isn't the EVAP system going to have a shit-fit when it runs the diagnostic?

I wonder if you could make a thin boxed area at the front of the bed and find a fuel bladder to fit in the area the gravity feeds the main. It would be lighter and removable and the filler could be on the same side as the tank door, and could be hidden easy.

Basically a fuel cell, which would be the safest answer, as those are crash rated. Still sucks up bed space.

You could also do fuel cells in the gap between the fender and the bed, there's a descent space there. Some people have put batteries and air tanks in there.

Gotcha! I don't live in jersey, so there wasn't a lot of concern over inspections or local pd run-ins, hence the one-way design.

Check out the last paragraph of post #33 on page two. It will occasionally throw a code. Only thing you need to fix that code is a valve.

Just add a check value on the supply line. If you do gravity feed you won't have an issue. The electronic value or manual value will seal the system tight.

Also if you have a pump rushing the fuel in it may set a code also. For the fuel system being over pressurized.

I wouldn't call it "rushing in" by any means. With the two pumps, it's about 25 minutes to transfer the full 15 gallons. So a bit under a gallon per minute.

I'd buy a 35 gallon tank today if I could.

That's not bad. But of someone was to use a high flow pump it could be an issue.

Lots of good ideas and helpful info in this thread. Here is another question for you. What is the difference between a fuel tank and a fuel cell? I see summit racing has all kinds of fuel cells in different shapes and sizes. http://m.summitracing.com/search/part-type/fuel-cells
