Same situation. Decided to go with the bolt-on and give it a try. If its not enough then so be it and ill upgrade in a year or two. Always a hard decision

 

Well at least you can drive mine and see it perform when we go out to see if its something you want to do

I went out wheeling with a buddy this last weekend in his new setup that is just OEM placed King 2.5s
It did really well and felt awesome over the washboard and rutted roads.

XJ shackles with regular Dakar pack. Only thing changed was the removal of the forward and aft clamps.

 

Speaking on inverted shackles. I came across defined engineering's OEM replacements and though they looked nice. Anyone know if they are in business still? I sent an email through their contact page just asking about products but the website looks like it hasn't seen much love in awhile and no response via email.

 

No concerns about the leafs moving around without the clamps?

 

You should really go take drivers ed again...your tires are flat and you keep driving into holes and rocks...amature

 

^^^^ I like the picture because due to the angle I can't tell if he is going to roll off that ledge or fall and smack the bumper and spare tire.

I tried to track him down last year and never got any responses either, he has some cool small parts on his site like those inverted shackles and the bump pads.

 

I was interested in the rear differential skid too since BAMF isn't making them anymore.

Hasn't been a problem in a years time. I was just outside and took a look, I removed the bolts on the two most center clamps.

It happens...

I totally smoked the bumper coming off that ledge.

 

I did take pictures of my coils the other day and havent gotten them off the camera card yet. Was kind of hard to see since the coil was dirty but there has definitely been some coil bind. The top ish and bottom ish coils have a nice rusty ring on the inside but those are the first to touch and the rest of the coils towards the middle just have some nicks in the paint/coating but no full on rust ring yet. Those marks got there before i fully cycled everything and i have since then added some bump spacing.

That sucks, but then again you had a torch so it couldn't have been that bad. I did this all with the stock bumper, bed attached, and spare tire removed for extra work space. The vertical lower rivets are the only ones that need to be drilled being that they also go through the cross brace. There's no clearance issues drilling straight up so I'm unsure why you had issues with drill angles. Similar to yours the mounts also didn't line up with the chassis holes, but after some negotiation with a rubber mallet the bolts finally fell into place. Visually I honestly thought I was going to have to drill them out further but placement just needed some massaging. Again, luck seemed to be on my side for this task and maybe we have different ATO flip versions. Most of the time things take me 2x as long as they should so it's a nice change of pace that something actually worked out on the first go... (I still have to pull my clamshell again and install the stub shaft which I boneheadedly forgot to transfer over, AND sent all the way back to ECGS.)


Crucial tip to anyone about to do a shackle flip:
DO NOT try knocking the lowers out with a punch. It will push the rivets out of the chassis just fine but they will likely stay jammed in the cross brace, bending it upwards and offsetting the rivet above the chassis. This will make them almost impossible to successfully drill out and force you to get creative. Other than that I can't imagine anything else going wrong other than having inadequate tools for the task. When in doubt, keep grinding.
