What kind of gas you feeding your 3rd gen taco

    The owner manual said 87 octane or higher. I use shell 93 V Power with nitro. I been 93 exxon only for all my past vehicle, now my taco will get nothing but Shell 93 V Power with nitro.

    Better gas mileage with that one, I used it when I offroaded for a 1/4 of the tank. Still got 17.5mpg. If I just drive like my regular self then I will get 19-20mpg with the regular 87. I notice better performance and gas mileage with the higher octane, I may start using it more.

    I've always heard that if you want to use a more beneficial fuel for your truck, use non-alcohol fuel instead of a higher octane fuel, for a variety of reasons.

    Some premium fuels do have more cleaning additives. That might be one benefit. But the higher octane rating will probably have little to no effect on engine performance, given that this particular 2GR is designed for 87. I suppose if you're towing 6000 lbs in 110' temps that added octane couldn't hurt things though. :notsure:

    I've tried the following and my truck runs best and gets the best economy on shell nitro+ 93 octane


    BP 87,89,93
    Speedway 87,89
    Shell 87, 93
    Exxon 87,89


    Try a few different brands and grades and see what your truck likes best

    As far as i understand it does on some higher performance applications running turbo or supercharger. Thats why the manufacturer will give you two ratings because it tunes for it. Most vehicles on the marked dont. I would be willing to bet money that it Wont do anything with the Tacoma.

    Yep that makes sence. If i remember correctly the Focus ST does as well. But i could be wrong.

    A slightly higher octane is always better, especially for burn and cleaning properties. Reduces valve clatter and gives a slightly hotter burn. You will notice a bigger difference in higher compression engines but... there is a difference in our little Taco's putt putt. I usually run 91. I have to run 91 or higher in the Harley otherwise valve clatter big time!
