Hey guys, I'm needing some help and advice. I would like my passenger to be able to mess with GPS, phone contacts etc. while I drive. If I put a switch on the speed sensor wire to temporarily disable it will it affect anything permanently ? Is the purple and white wire the correct wire to splice into ? Also where is located ? Thanks

Totally lost on the question? Are you trying to override the safety that wont let you fool with phone while driving? If that's correct I don't think the computer looks at speed, I think it looks to see if your in drive or park. You will definitely get a check engine light and possible funny shifting trans if its automatic.

Mine will disable upon movement. Then enable when coming to a stop, but still in gear. Interested to see where this one goes. Has to be speed sensitive somewhere.

I can "fool with my phone" contacts while I'm setting at a light. Its still in drive, it only disables that ability once I start moving. So, I think the computer does look at speed and not whether its in drive or park.

I bought one of these http://www.icarkits.com/cars/TOYOTA_TACOMA_2013/V8VIMTY05 and it allows you to use all the functions of the stereo while you are moving as well as adding some other audio/video equipment. I am using it to add a front mounted camera myself. So far its been working flawlessly. I activate it by pressing the search up button, or toggle switch if you dont have sterring wheel control buttons, and all the head unit functions are instantly available to use whether you want to use the phone or GPS. Most of it is plug and play however if you do not have a 10 pin plug on your stereo you will have to cut 3 of the wires and connect them yourself, very easy as I had to do that method, its just an acc powerwire, a constant power and a ground, pretty simple for a great addition. It shows in the manual that it works with 2012-2015 Tacoma's.

Nice find. Definitely, my next puchase for the taco.
