    Just so people know, the factory tint isn't film, it's a glass dye. It has no UV protection and little thermal reflectivity

    35% front and 5% all around the back. Makes for 2% passive light in the rear.

    I figured as such. So when installers apply tint in the rear "over" stock there's no tint to peel back?

    In CA, you can't have the front windows tinted. I had 35% on my TBSS when I came back from Hawaii (which was legal there) and got a fix it ticket a few years later in CA. I ran 50% on the fronts of my Fronty and running 50% on my Taco now as well... FormulaOne Pinnacle, which is a product of Llumar.

    This, I found out early on with my TBSS that factory tint is just privacy glass that just makes it harder to see inside vs. no tint or non dye'd glass. It does little with the UV rays and doesn't do much with keeping the heat out.

    I feel that tinting the fronts to match the rears is the wrong reason to get the windows tinted, but to each his own. I'm running 50% in the fronts and 15% in the rears. I'd like to get 80% on my windshield, but I'd have to find a shop willing to do that for me here in CA. Would go darker in the front (driver/passenger), but those aren't allowed to get tinted in CA. Gonna touch base with the shop that tinted my windows and see about getting my windshield done. I'm using FormulaOne Pinnacle series which is a product of Llumar. Was going to go with Llumar, but from what I've researched, FomulaOne is better than Llumar. The tint is a little lighter than some other companies but does better with keeping the heat out and gives better UV protection.

    That's odd, for as long as I've been driving (20 yrs) I've known it as no tint on the front windows. First car I had, the shop wouldn't tint my front windows. Even recently, shops were saying fronts can't be tinted. Most will do it, but won't warranty them nor will they take responsibility applying the tint.

    For what comes up on Google, the websites state 70% but not sure how credible they are without a reference because of what I'm being told by tint shops.

    First had 35% in the front. Got tired of people looking at me so I went with 5% all around because half the time I got drunks in the back. In CA, but not worried about fix it tickets. (My buddy was actually in the front seat and he can't even be seen)

    I've had five vehicles tinted over the last five years. One of them 3 times because I kept changing the look.

    70% is CA law for front windows. Every car is going to have some level of tint in the glass. For example, adding a 70% film will bring you into the high 60% range. Adding 50% will bring you into the high 40% range. Never ever had issues when I had my 70% 3M Cyrstalline.

    I now have 50% Crystalline on my fronts and no issues. A lot of peeps do 35% with no issues but I just did not feel like dealing with any issues given it cost me $200 for only fronts.

    @easbaysav

    Here's my old car the I had wrapped in 70% to give you an idea of what that looks like. It's almost like having no tint for those that want protection but not be dark. This out performed much darker tint on uv and heat protection because it was quality film.

    PS - The honda fit in the background is 70% front and 35% rear.

    Just some 35% tint to match the rears and some 285/70/17 Falkens…
    Don't forget that your car already comes with tint on the front door window. All cars do. So when you put 20% tint on, it'll be more like 10% when it's all said and done. I went with 37% tint on the front doors and it matched the rear factory tint perfect. My two pennies...
