    Considered a Locker but went with the Tru Trac as Tac 1 mentioned. Both have the good and bad things to consider. Lockers get a bad report about noise from the ratchet during cornering and unless the tires have low grip to absorb the corners they can tend to make the front end push until the ratchets release. The Tru Trac, is not perfect either, but is quiet and corners well. Fro experience, if the traction is close for both tires there is no slip to notice, the serious downside may be if the tire with grip, which gets more power to it if the opposite tire spins, can't find enough grip to get the vehicle moving.

    The main drawback for my 2010 DCLB Prerunner is needing more ground clearance and the oem gear ratio for off road.

    Your explanation of lockers is for a lockrite. A selectable locker such as an ARB or a factory e-Locker won't experience those symptoms. A selectable locker is basically an open diff when you disengage it (street driving), when you get offroad you engage it and have a fully locked diff.

    Agree, was focusing on the comments made by RattleTrap comparing a Detroit Locker to a Tru Trac. No doubt selectable locker is the best of all worlds, except maybe cost and added stuff needed to be able to select the mode.

    Gotcha, I had a Powertrax in my last truck and it was awful. I wouldn't do that again unless it was a dedicated trail rig. I have a LSD now and it behaves much better on the street. One day when I have to regear I'll throw in an ARB.

    No, it is sealed within the rear end housing. The design has two ratchet "plates", these are pushed against a center spider with mating teeth for the outside ratchets. A left and right spring keep it clamped or locked all the time, unless the tire force is sufficient to unseat and ratchet the plates and spider. That's why sometimes these locker will either chirp tires like a spool or you can hear them clacking away.

    I researched it all a bunch before buying. One thing I did learn was the better Toyota rear end is in the prerunner. More bolts holding the ring gear, less flex of the gear and no reported failures last time I looked. The 4wd with e locker has the small ring gear with fewer bolts and a bunch of them have failed under load. Basically snapping the ring gear and trashing the diff.

    I'd disagree. Been on a detroit locker rear for 2 years now and it's in no way loud and I barely ever hear it. Many peeps on here have wheeled with me and they haven't heard my detroit either.
