I have no complaints with the BAMF one. I was a little worried that I would catch on the front lip, but it's been good so far! Does anyone know why he stopped making them?

The BAMF one ^^ is pretty tight to the housing, and I don't think you lose too much clearance at all. maybe 3/4'' if I had to guess... but I guess every inch counts right? :notusre:

Yes. They are labor and consumable intensive to build. And he knows it's a pointless product other than those that wanted piece of mind. There is a reason he never ran one on his own truck when he was still IFS and stock axle.

Yup. I have it on my truck. Well, I had to modified it a bit so it butts up to the bottom of my truss.

Are there pics in your build of it with the truss?

Probably not. I don't post every two bit mod or work I do to my truck.

Piece of mind is what I originally bought it for. But now that you point out that the back of the housing is the weakest point, it makes me feel a bit better knowing the this skid actually covers that as well. still worried about hanging up on the front of it though..haha

I would also add the drain plug as a weak point. I ended up grinding the ring around my plug down so much I was hitting the plug and loosening it on the trail.

I don't like the idea of a diff diaper for many reasons, so I welded up a little piece of 1/2"x1/2" steel to act as a sacrificial piece and try to keep rocks off the plug.

Good point on the plug. I use an aftermarket plug that All Pro sells. It's doesn't bulge out as far as the factory one and uses a 10mm hex to remove so there are no edges to snag on rocks.

Blue torch fab makes rear diff armor too, pretty dang tough. It doesn't fit the e-lockers though only the older 8" diffs. I think I'll run that on my 4runner and just build one for the tacoma

Sat evening, Chick-fil-A parking lot. Had to take drastic measures and hop a parking spot curb. If only I knew then what I know now ........ *sniff* .......
Sounds like my build thread ....

Why you gotta claim they're pointless? :stirthepot:

I got one because I wanted to keep the third from taking a beating again. It has done just that. Clearance has been a non issue as well.

Cool story about hitting shit with your diff at 50+:brianr:

Top of tha mornin' to ya lad :hattip:

I saw it. You said nothing that needed me to follow up on. If you compress the spring to get it to fit on the shock, survey says...you still preloaded the spring.

I would win at this game...or maybe it's lose. Whatever :drunk:
