Mine is. And this is after they replaced the whole cluster for an unrelated issue.

Yes, it's designed in, although I'm not sure if it's a constant 2 mph offset or a percentage (e.g. 3%). Most owners upsizing to 32" tires (from stock 31") report the speedo becomes accurate at highway speeds.

As far as I know the software calibration is limited to the speedo, so the odometer is accurate within the limits of mfg tolerances.

Digital speed is accurate. Analog is not. Odometer reads low by 2.5% on my truck which, is a lot.

My digital speedometer does not match my dial gauge. The digital read will show 60 and my dial will show 58

Well, I tested that theory and got a ticket... On my stock DCSB TRD Sport the digital speedo does look to be about 2 MPH faster than the analog one. But it is also correct where my analog one is 2 MPH slow. If it indicates 45 MPH on the analog it'll be about 47 MPH on the digital. I just got a ticket last week for going 47 MPH as indicated by LiDAR :annoyed: First ticket too, never a problem in a silver or white Tundra. But I get something red and flashy and what do you know...

You got a ticket for 47 in a 45? Yeah...That would be me in court challenging the difference between the radar and the instrument cluster as both can be off by a few mph. Even 5 over is pushing it for a ticket. Now if you are 10 or more over, then you aint got much of a leg to stand on at that point. Sounds like an asshole cop that didn't have anything better to do. Of course they run traffic because either they are new or are crap cops to begin with.

It was 47 in a 40. Though probably 90% of traffic moves at 45 at that spot anyway as it's past the residential area by the highway. It is a traffic officer that has nothing better to do though. I've seen him before, he just sits there at least once to twice a week. Other times he'll be sitting on the onramp getting people merging on the highway too fast.

Most of the officers around here don't care unless it's 10+ but they are the ones that have better things to do apparently.

My point was that if you go 5 over on a regular basis and you use the analog speedo, you could easily end up with a ticket. So I just stick to the digital now and have stopped caring about that darn MPG meter that I've never had before :) For what it's worth, my Tundra seemed to always be dead on and never had any kind of adjustment. It was all analog though, stock tire size for the most part as it was a Rock Warrior (285/70/17).

Yeah It's my fault, not debating that. Just my observation regarding the OP and the MPH difference between analog and digital with an outside speed source. Now I just need to find one of those "your speed" things. I used to see them every once in a while in the suburb by the city, but haven't seen one in quite some time.

I'm going to have to use my phone in conjunction with my digital speedometer and compare it to the needle now. I always assumed the analog was going to be more accurate, old school thought process I guess.

My analog gauge is about 2 - 3 mph slow compared to the digital at 70 mph.

The digital readout is the correct speed.

47 in a 40? I'm a cop in NJ and I don't even look at anyone unless they're doing 20+ over for the most part. But there are certain things you have to factor in instead of just saying the guy is "an asshole cop" with "nothing better to do."

Is it a school zone? You'd be shocked at the influence the school board has on police functions. Teacher complains to the Chief about cars going too fast? You watch how fast an officer gets a detail to enforce speeding in that location. So it isn't that he has nothing better to do. He's probably been ordered to do it. Did a resident complain at a town council meeting about speeding in that area? Or MAYBE there was a National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration survey conducted, like on most roads, that alerted the police department that speed enforcement is critical in that area. The Police Administration then orders selective enforcement.

It's amazing how little people know about police. Everyone thinks they're just individual Kings that do as they see fit. Police work is a highly structured, highly regulated, highly scrutinized line of work. If that cop is sitting there writing your ass a ticket for 7mph over the limit, it's for a reason. He probably thinks it's absurd as well.

Bring the documents to court and show the prosecutor.

And LIDAR is extremely accurate equipment.

Yeah OP you can argue defective equipment and if you can bring proof that the dealer fixed it they may dismiss it with warning especially since 7 over is not much. Never seen anyone pulled over for this unless there was another reason to get pulled over.

Exactly. I would bring all that documentation showing the 2-3mph deviation in speed. Maybe they amend it to 44 in a 40. Which is still insane to me. If I walked into court with a 7 over ticket the prosecutor would probably dismiss it and call me a douche bag later. And I would have to agree. But I duno what the story is where you're from.

Anything else up with your car? Tints? Any other violations?

Stock as can be, drove it off the dealer lot last month. Clean record on me, went yesterday to apply for diversion and I didn't even exist in the system, nor did the ticket because they take a while to download them apparently. This was my first time ever even being pulled over. Went nearly 8 years of driving completely clean. Never hit a thing public or private.

    No school zone either.

    :notsure:

So, to the OP. Yeah it's off a bit, seems to be the conclusion. Sorry I jacked the thread :)
