3" Lift Suggestions

Well, I did quite a bit of searching but couldn't seem to find the exact information I was looking for...so hopefully I'm not being terribly redundant here.

I'm looking to do a 3" lift on my 08' DBL Cab Taco. I've heard upper control arms are a good idea as well.

I would love to buy the Fox kit...but budget might actually be a thing here:

The EMU kit seems simple which I could pair with UCAs but is only offered in 2" ish from what I see on their website (not keen on pairing that with a body lift for the extra inch).

I'm weary of boss (from Toytech) and I don't know much about Bilstein or Icon.

I'm guessing at a 3" i'll need to shim the drive shaft (which I've only read about but seems pretty straight forward).

Anyways...to phrase this thread properly...I'm a mechE and PICKY AS FUCK about the performance, durability and build quality of suspension products. So suggestions to a good kit, company, post installed ride quality, part longevity, and more are all much appreciated.

If this is true. Then don't go a full 3 inches. You will find better performance in a lift just enough to fit your tires. 2.5" is a good spot.

The old man emu kit is a good lift. It will satisfy most people. If your looking for high quality and high performance. I suggest getting a coilover, like Fox,king,icon,ads for the front. Its a good idea to lift the back with a new leaf pack. Especially if the stock one has alot of miles.

But this all depends on your intention or what you need the truck to do.

 

That Lola kit is a great medium on the price. I would completely agree that coil overs would be a great advantage, especially to adding a winch package to the front. I plan on building this truck into a decent off road vehicle (sold my old 95 4runner off road rig) and moving up. Also, I did a 2" lift on the 4runner and that was about all I needed for clearance so 2-3 inch should be fine.

 

Im running fox on my truck with @allpro LT Arms and it rides great. Also have fox on my trailer. So far very happy. Ive also had Icons, toytecs boss lift, and 5100s

 

That Lola kit looks nice for the price

 

Definitely a value while its on sale. Add up the costs of that stuff separately and its way more.

I've actually done quite a bit of motorcycle development with Fox and really like their build quality and performance. So, I'm a little biased. I noticed on the "Lola" kit it doesn't have the front diff drop spacers or rear drive shaft shim spacers...are those something that I should purchase separately if I do go that route?

 

Don't need a diff drop on a second gen. They are pointless. Tons of threads on this.

The kit only lifts the rear 1.5 so the truck will be level. No axle shims or carrier bearing drop needed

I run 2.5" and 2 in the rear using spacers right now but plan on moving to factory trd style suspension which is all made by Bilstein. Bilstein makes the 6112 series and it is awesome. Part Number: 46-241627.

There are other kits and stuff but depending on what you want to do you can use small spacer kits to manipulate the extra 1/2" If thats what you really want.

I think the biggest question is how you want to lift the rear end

If you ordered blocks or add a leafs to the rear its really down to what type of addons your going to put in and what ride your willing to deal with. I constantly get comments from others that ride in my truck that its one of the best riding lifted tacoma's they have been in.

Hm. I like the Lola kit but it might go nicely with a 0.5-1" rear body spacer...

 

Pretty sure you have to body lift the whole thing or it will look off. And please stay away from all body lifts.... Please....

 

Another dumb question. I take it with the Lola AAL, the stock u bolts are adequate?

 

Should be. Although I recommend eventually getting a flip kit and aftermarket bump stops. I hear allpro's flip kit now works with Wheelers offroads superbumps which are more affordable then timberans

 

Could you expand?

 

body lifts are just for looks. They provide no fuctional benefit. They actually make the vehical more top heavy. The space between the frame and the body is ugly. And the body lines wont match if you just lift the bed of the truck.
