I haven't kept up with any news on the new Tacomas, however I am out of the country (I have been looking at the Hilux) and will be coming back soon. I was curious to see what you people think, should I go with the 2017 or wait a few months and see what they release. I have been interested in a TRD Pro if they come out with one.

I'm not really in a rush but would like to have one soon.

    Thoughts?

Well I am waiting on the 2017 hoping by then Toyota has worked out all of the bugs. Also I am interested in the long bed OR 4x4 model with PT and JBL. For 2016 this configuration is impossible to get. I hoping my 2016 holds out until August that is when I plan to place my order I am not sure what Toyota has in mind for 2017 but you may have to wait till 2018 or 2019 for the PRO. Anyway good luck

I'd wait for now. I think the transmission will need some recalibrating. I love my 2016 (almost 3k miles on it now) and have not had any problems with it but believe the choice to move to the 3.5L for more "efficiency" was a Swing & Whiff by Toyota. The 3.5L is quieter than the 4.0L. The 3.5L shifts smooth but you really have to put your foot into it to get the same feel of acceleration as the 4.0L. The power band/throttle in my lady's 2016 4Runner with the 4.0L is much more pleasant (stronger power off the line with less foot on the gas) and if you look at Fuelly the 2016 3.5L motor is really only netting about 0.7 MPG better (not even a full 1mpg) than the previous 4.0L equipped 2015. When you put your foot down on the 3.5L it will move but it winds up like a Blender to do so... I guess I was disappointed that they couldn't get 3mpg or 4mpg average improvement but the data on Fuelly speaks for itself. Sure the occasional poster here in ideal conditions and driving like Grandpa will net 20mpg to 21mpg but it is not the norm for this truck.

I placed my order for an Off Road last week.
Anyone know if the bugs are getting corrected at the plant so I don't have to deal with it when I get mine?
or are they just waiting for the 2017 to fix the issues?

Some things like the hood vibration and wind noise should be corrected by 2017. Other things like the BSM may be fixed by then. I was hoping that some of the current owners would keep a running list of the problems being reported

Some of these issues are spotty. I haven't had a hood vibration issue nor any BSM problems.

    Myth.

Look at the repair rates on past Tacomas (or any other Toyota). They are not correlated to redesigns at all.

Not impossible to get that package, you just have to order it and be willing to wait. Mine was special ordered in December and will be delivered in late February or early March.

OP..I was in the same boat as you and just decided to order one. Just because you wait for 2017 doesn't guarantee you anything IMO. The 2017's could have their own set of issues which may be worse. You never know. Either way you have a warranty. I was going to try and hold out but couldn't take it lol.

Every year model from every manufacturer has issues. Nothing in this world is perfect. Titty sprinkles.

All I can go by is 45 years of driving experience. But it's always better to buy the last year of the model run. Then the first.

Below is actual data to dispel first year myth's on Tacomas. It's been posted several times on this forum, but still holds truth when these conversations come up.

I see we have accepted low standards as a way of life Toyota I the past has built its company on reliability and quality I don't see why we should expect anything different I mean spending 40,000 on a truck and the hood vibrates.

From what I've seen (frame rotting, drive line vibes, low trans fluid, toyotas accelerator pedals killing people, sagging leaf spring, ect..) we've accepted "low standards" long ago. These things have been problems for a while, according to this forum. Nothing to do with a first year model.

How much something cost has nothing to do with the problems it will or will not have. I've worked on brand new $30 million+ aircraft that have issues strait out the factory door.

I ain't bashing. I love my 16, even with all those around here trying to convince me otherwise.

im not sure what happened in 2009. Was that they year of the rusted frames?

But in your charts there is significant increases in defects with the new models.
And less for the last year.

For example, look at all the problems with the brand new Lexus RC.

That's why I'm looking for a 2014 ISF. Besides being the last year. It had more improvements and options available. Then the first year of the model.

You can go spend $45K on a Colorado / Canyon and hang out on those forums to see how those owners feel. That truck has been out a year now so you can see if any of their problems / bugs have been addressed yet since it's debut.

I saw that thread and kind of laughed to my self. I started looking for it and I notice minor vibration here and there, nothing too dramatic. Figured it was normal since it only happens on bumps and what not, and again I didnt notice it until I started looking for it. I popped the hood anyways, and noticed the glue or whatever they used is coming apart. I suspect the problem will get worst sooner or later.

You can go into the settings on the navigation and set it up.

My old nav had me get off a highway before the interchange. Cut through a subdivision then get back on the other highway.

In the settings it was set up to use the shortest route possible.

Also it has settings for cruise speeds. Tollways. Bridges.
