Thanks for sharing! Are you going to dip the whole grille or just the horizontal trim pieces? I can't tell from the pic but it looks like the top layer of mesh is dipped. I know you didn't need to remove the emblem but how hard would it be to remove ? Is it just held on with tabs? I plan on dipping the grille black and emblem in white.

Looks great with the untouched caps. Did you remove the tires to dip or did you leave them mounted? How many coats of the glossifier did you go with? I'm really considering dipping my wheels and saving myself $900.

I took them off. 4 coats of plastidip and 1 coat of glossifier. I used 3x5 index cards in between the rim and tire and took them out while the last coat (glossifier) was still wet. Worked great. While I had the rims off, I painted my front calipers red with a small paintbrush. Did not paint the center caps. They are a little different shade of black (like very dark gray) but they look good enough. I may take them off and dip them too if it looks too different in the bright light.
    They definitely look much better!️

Do you have any experience with the longevity with bug damage? I am guessing extra coats will help.

I used Krylon red, but I know there is G2 or Duplicolor caliper paint. I also put a coat of Krylon clearcoat on as a topcoat.

I just cleaned them real good with soap and water then dried them well with a microfiber cloth before painting with plastidip. No sanding nor scuffing, that way if you ever want to take it off, it still looks like it did before.

The day that I brought home my truck I painted the grille black. I used a Rustoleum gloss black and a Rustoleum clear coat. About 4 coats black and 2 coats clear. I took it off of the truck and sanded it first with fine sandpaper. I did this back in November and it has held up fine so far. Didn't know much about plastidip back then or I would have used it instead just because plastidip is so durable and can be removed if needed.

This is on my list.. grille & wheels. This will be my first time playing with plasti-dip. when I'm ready, I'll be asking questions on here.

My first question, I'm going with a un-painted custom cargrills mesh. Would you advise against derping it or is there any base coats I should apply first?

I think that as long as the surface is clean and dry, this stuff will stick well to it. If it were me, I would still put a coat of primer on it first just to cover bare metal. But it probably doesn't need it. I think the key to making it last is putting 4-5 light coats.
