Almost back to my baseline pain in my mid back. Lower back still well above my baseline pain. And the neck, well the neck hurts every day so it's "normal" today. How about you, Andy, how are you feeling today?

Evening every and anyone :) And hope the whole crew is recovering from pain!

Heat tape on my roof died and with all this snow and warming up now have an ice dam. Dam dams... Went and picked up a 10 pack of knee high stockings and filled 2 with calcium\magnesium chloride, tied off and winged them on the roof with a rope to align them in place. Time to make a couple more nylon salt sausages and try my luck at pitching them.

 It was busy... But I like busy at work - makes the day go by fast. Then walked the pups. Was nice out today. Need to find the chute for my lawn mower   can't blow leaves without it :pout:

 back is ok... neck, shoulder and knees are another story

Hope the pain level goes down soon for you.

:( sorry. Have never heard of your calcium/magnesium chloride snow melt :notsure:

Calcium and Magnesium Chloride don't damage roof shingles like Sodium Chloride does. It it isn't such a bad thing that you don't have to deal with it :D. Dealing with finding the chute for the mower to blow leaves is a much better proposition trust me!

Directv tuner\recorder died tonight, don't watch a lot of tv but kind of feel cut off. They say a replacement will be in the mail on Thursday will see... Can't watch the grass grow so thought I'd try capturing a picture of snowflakes tonight instead. Of course it is snowing again, ugh. Flakes have a lot of rine so aren't the best to capture, got a few though still a work in progress. After many on here have seen trillions and trillions of the little bastages not likely what anyone wants to see now. But alone on their own they are kind of interesting. Using a Pendleton wool scarf with a blue tint in it to capture them on.

@Cold Iron - Trying to imagine what this is all about. What is "Heat Tape"? I'm guessing some kind of electrically conducted tape underneath the roofing to melt ice to prevent ice dams. Calcium chloride inside stocking? Do you do this just to be able to pitch the ice melt onto the roof? Also, might allow the ice melt to be metered out a little more slowly for maximum melting capability? All this is new to me, but it appears to be theoretically sound. Or I could be completely wrong and you just like making calcium chloride sausages in the middle of winter.

LOL would prefer not to make them! Yeah I have a cathedral ceiling on one side of the house. Attic has plenty of insulation but some heat still get up there and when it warms melts the snow on top. The water runs down the roof under the snow and freezes when it hits the overhang causing ice to build up and back up. The heat tape is just an electrical resistive tape that you run zig zag along the gutters and edge of the roof. I've had several people come in and look at the attic, we tried ventilation panels etc. but still no joy. Contractors say I need to build a cold roof over it which is just a second roof over the top to keep it cold. Pretty spendy and most of the time it is cold enough through winter it isn't a problem. Chemical ice melts the ice dam and allows the water to run out instead of down inside the walls of the house  Going to warm up even more this week and going to be a mess if I don't a head start on it now.

As the water hits the cold edge of the roof overhang it freezes to ice, usually starts in the gutters. The weight can and will rip the gutters off.

The icicles are actually kind of pretty, but not a good thing.

Better living through chemistry! Hopefully when I wake up there will be channels cut through the ice and water can flow out. Which of course makes a mess but better there than the roof and walls.

Good choice! I have those, well modified ones anyhow.

I busted most of the fasteners getting the OEM ones off but had read that is common so picked up a box of them ahead of time. Got the fasteners from clips and fasteners a lot cheaper than what Toyota wants for them. Good luck hope the weather holds off for you to get them on!

I was looking for the best of both worlds, kind of got there. I hate the hard OEM ones they break and on my Xterra they actually caused a bit of body damage when I ripped them off. I like the molded hard form to keep out debris and snow around the contour, but wanted the flexibility for when I am off road. Been 2 years and they have held up so far. I didn't have a plastic rivet gun but picked up some plastic rivets anyhow and using a hammer and a wood block with a hole drilled out got it done. The dealer I got my topper from had the plastic flex ones and I asked him to throw them in for free with the shell which he did. At the price I paid for it he should have! Good luck!

Hope it clears up so you can do your mod. That rain is here now and we're expecting quite a bit. Yesterday I ordered husky mud flaps to replace just the front ones of my '14. Happy moding :)

Yesterday was absolutely WONDERFUL! While I've been off, so has my #2 guy here at work. He's dealing with early stage lung cancer. He's had chemo, radiation, and a cyber-knife surgery. Yesterday was my first day back on the job, as so it was for Todd also. He's done with treatments and awaits another scan in 3 months. We met in the parking lot yesterday morning as we arrived. Didn't know if we were supposed to laugh, cry, shake hands, or give each other a hug! I've never seen 2 people more excited to go to work!

I just walked in the office. Todd will be here in a few minutes. We're SO happy to get back to the routine!

Anyway.....31 degrees. Light drizzle falling. Temps headed to the 60's by the weekend. BEAUTIFUL weather! It's amazing how good things are when you have the right perspective.....

Hope YOUR day is a bright, happy day, full of pleasant surprises!

Morning, All ! Yeah, Shifter, waking up to temps ABOVE freezing ? Wow ! I'm hoping we get a good melt off before we get any rain. I fear rain will weigh down all that snow on my roof and cause a collapse. I'm watching the 10-day forecast and if necessary, I will climb up on the roof and shovel off some of those 5 foot drifts up there.

Corny Joke Of The Day: A duck walks into a bar and says, Drinks on me... put it on my bill !

Have a good one, everybody !

At Lake Cumberland, here in Kentucky, after the 12"+ inch snow last Friday, a marina owner decided to try to use a fire hose to knock snow off the roofs of some covered docks. The snow held a lot of water, then caused the metal roof to collapse. Damage estimates already in the millions.

Best way to deal with snow HERE is to just wait it out. We had almost 20" in less than a week. 4 days later it's all but gone.
