I had a 2015 SR5 V6 Access Cab w/ 9,000 mi perfect truck with no issues but wanted the "new everything" that was offered with the latest and greatest 2016 Tacoma. So I ordered a 2016 SR5 V6 Access Cab last Oct, it came in mid Nov. Traded in my 2015 and drove my new 2016 [first time driving one] with 2 mi on it and headed home on the freeway 4 mi away. First thing I noticed around 70 mph -2000+ rpm was the audible resonating drone noise/tone coming from the exhaust and the buzz felt in the steering wheel around 2000 - 2300 rpm. Along with that noise I also got an ear full of road noise from rear cab vents opening allowing outside road noise between the cab/bed enter the cab. I had to look around and see if a window or door was open, that's another issue. Being a retired Ford mechanic, when I got it home and slid under the truck to see if I could see if the exhaust was grounding out against the frame, loose heat shield or bent hanger but found nothing. I purchase an aftermarket chrome exhaust tip for the truck so I installed it. Drove the truck and noticed it intensified the audible resonating/drone/buzz at 2000 - 2300 rpm AND now accelerating from a stop just by installing the exhaust tip. I removed the tailpipe tip and the audible sound/buzz/drone went back to only hearing feeling it around the 2000 rpm range. I've tried to diag the issue myself by closely inspecting all exhaust bolts, engine/trans mounts, ex hangers to frame/engine & trans, heat shields and cats for internal rattle an found nothing. I find if you take it up on the freeway and tip-in-out the accelerator pedal around 70 mph -2000+ rpm you can make it come and go. In my opinion it sounds like the exhaust is resonating, droning, buzzing causing the audible sound and buzzing felt in the steering wheel. Installing the aftermarket ex tip [at least on my truck] changed the concern proving out it could be exhaust related as I stated in my first post. Truck now has 1,500 mi and the noise is still there it does seem to change with ambient temp. I've called Toyota and got my case number and told them they can let my selling dealer know of my issues. My dealer called and wanted me to bring it in so they can check it out and compare it to another veh. I know the routine being an ex mechanic and opted to wait and see if the issue get resolve thru a tsb. If the weather was warmer here [NE Oh] I would get into trying to diag it more. Sorry for the long post,

The vibration is quite obvious and apparent in both the steering wheel and the floorboard/gas pedal at the 2100-2300RPM range. There is no missing it at all. Even my passengers can feel it in the passenger floorboard at those RPM's.

I have the OE exhaust tip put on prior to delivery. When it gets a little warmer, with less snow and ice on the ground, I'm going to take it off and see if it makes a difference... The SR5 I had as a rental when they tested my truck did not have the exhaust tip. The vibes were there, just not near as annoying.

I forgot to mention, I feel it's the weight of the exhaust tip not the outlet shape or size. The tip I had weighed close to 3lbs. Not sure what OEM is? Could cause harmonic frequency/buzzing tone in the ex system that's why some mfg's [Ford]use counter weights hanging on some ex systems to remedy.....just a thought.

Agreed. There is indeed a droning noise. But the vibration is not something one can miss in any way, shape, or form. Nor can one feel it to the extent some of us have it and say "oh, it's a truck and not a car." I've owned trucks, including a Tacoma that I traded for the 16, and this isn't normal.

If you have one that you can't feel, you are lucky. I'm curious what model and trim you purchased--e.g., Off-Road, Sport, 4X4, AT or Manual?

I, too, feel as though I am not experiencing anything close to what you guys are. When coming to a stop, I have a very faint vibration in the truck between 15 and 20 mph and that's it. I'm curious if it has something to do with when the effected trucks were produced or which factory they came from. Mine was produced in TX mid December.

Not a vibration but ticking noise. Guess what I just found today. 4b2ba032d22ddc12b44dee31257aad20_2f269b1084fd100a9d08d40db500a7c1dee451bb.jpg

That's my guess. It's been driving me nuts for 8,000 miles. Since I got the truck. I'll see later when I take her out tonight

Did you wipe the area clean or is the boot leaking?

I didn't do anything but take the sticker off. I guess it's clean from the sticker slap

I wonder if installing an aftermarket full exhuast will change anything.

I know I'm pretty OCD but I feel like my truck is falling apart because of these vibrations.
First it started a rattle in the passenger door, fixed that with some dynamat. Then it starts a rattle/buzz in the passenger side dash, electrical tape and dynamat fixed that. And now it has finally started a rattle in the sunglasses holder/moon roof controls.
I can't imagine what the low/high frequency vibrations are doing to the components in the engine compartment, only time will tell.

I agree. When I spoke w the engineers, I made it a point to let them know that even though the numb hands from the vibration was my first priority, I was really concerned about vehicle longevity, too. I'm getting rattles already and I didn't have one in my 5 1/2 YO FJC.....and I can't help but think it's caused by the vibration.

Would be cheaper to try it (or something like it) than trade in and take a huge hit.....might give it a go if Toyota's response to this issue ends up being tepid....I appreciate your posting this as a possible alternative, especially if it turns out to be an exhaust issue...
