And a kershaw blur would probably be my next one.

It depends on use and if you're using them right.

I have a sharpening stone that my dad used as a kid. I also have a buddy who doesn't have a clue and he'll destroy a stone and a knife in a year.

I'll look it up on YouTube for the best methods on sharpening so I don't ruin it.

my tenacious is my sharpest knife!! sure you have to put an edge back on it quicker than my ZT0566 but the spyderco tenacious gets wicked sharp very very quickly for that price point!! the steel on my cheap kershaws suck in comparison to the sypderco

i usually have JRs_Knives neckr on me at all times and a pocket knife of some sort, today is the ZT 0566, both are pretty sharp!! :D put a almost mirror polish and a micro bevel on the JR the other day, he posted it up on his Instagram. I used DMT stones and then finished it off with a sypderco ceramic ultra fine stone and micro bevel was put on with crock sticks

by no means was I saying get a high quality knife for your first one, but I've had a few kershaws, and they were all better quality than the tenacious

Yeah thanks for the advice, I probably will try a kershaw blur for my next knife . The spyderco is coming today so I will update when I get it.

Should I not look on YouTube for a good strategy on sharpening ? Is there a better place?

I wouldn't. Others may think otherwise.

What I would do, is get a Sharpie and cover the bevel with ink. Then run the blade down a sharpener a few times. Wherever ink is missing is where you're hitting the bevel and cutting edge correctly. It'll show you immediately what you're doing wrong (too steep of an angle, too little of an angle) and allow you to correct it and learn proper angles - which is 100% of sharpening.

I'll try that, seems like a great idea to see exactly what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

    That's a nice looking knife. Seems a bit smaller than a BK14.

i watched every video that Jdavis882 has on his youtube video channel a while back and learned a ton!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cznPI-mdWMg

he does the black marker trick which is worth its weight in gold!! also you have to be consistent with the stroke and not change that angle at all

that kershaw was fun to sharpen, it wouldn't cut printer paper when i got it, now it cuts fine strands of news paper

Jdavis also stole a lot of money from a lot of people and then disappeared.

He knew his shit, but fuck him.
