I have a couple of un-cut ignition keys for my truck. Can these be cut anywhere or does the dealership have to program them or something? I programed my new keyless entry fobs. Just not sure on the keys.

They can be cut anywhere. Some places can program them and some cannot. It is a crap shoot.

If you want the key to work in the ignition, you need to get it programmed.

If you just want a key for opening doors, no need to program.

If you have an immobilizer it will need to be programmed, if you do not have the immobilizer you do not need to program.

In the USA if you have the 2.7 liter 4 banger you do not have an immobilizer.
If you have a 4.0 liter 6 banger chances are you do have an immobilizer.
Look just to the right of the clock is there a little symbol of a car with a key through it? If yes you have an immobilizer.

I think all Canadians have immobilizer. They are special that way!

Go to a reputable local locksmith.

Their duplicators will be calibrated well so they won't mess up your blank (spacing or depth are often wrong at hardware or big box stores) and many of them can program the key as well.

As a point of reference, our building keys for work have to be made by a true locksmith. They have brought blanks to a hardware store before and none of the cut keys worked. Locksmith had no trouble and they operate like the originals. Tolerances are very tight.
