2005 - 2015 printed Haynes manual is available

I've used it on the last 4 vehicles without any issues Not as detailed as FSM but great for cross references and printed in basic language for some people who don't understand technician language. I've been wrenching for over 20 yrs and like the Haynes better then the Chiltons manual.

 

Can I just reiterate how happy I am that I finally have a Haynes manual now... well, will shortly.

So sick of YouTubing and watching all you weirdos small girly hands fumble around with your Fumoto oil valve.

 

I have that one too, I wonder if there is much difference at all.

 

I went to the Haynes web site and found the '05 - '15 Tacoma manual to contain 352 pages. It kept the same part # as the '05-'11 manual. The '05-'11 version was no longer to be found there in hard copy form.

At Amazon I found the '05-'11 manual and it too had 352 pages.

My guess is they simply slapped an new cover on the front of the manual.

 

In regards to Haynes manuals, I have had 3 and yes, they do contain errors. Mostly typos though. In terms of procedures, I find them accurate enough.

I would be interesting to have someone who already owns the '05-'11 Tacoma manual and has ordered the newer '05-'15 Tacoma manual to place then side by side and compare. As mentioned above, web analysis indicates both have the SAME number of pages. What's been added/changed?

 

Would you recommend this manual for someone who has never worked on their truck before, but may possibly one day? Basically, is it a good manual to learn more about your truck without necessarily diving into maintenance, or is it just "I have repair X I need to do, here are the steps"

 

The Haynes manual would be a good investment for someone starting out. The first chapter in all of them has the same info today that was printed years ago. Some of that in my opinion would be obsolete or maybe not needed as the aim of a book like this is to help do-it-yourselfer's perform maint and minor repairs. I would not overhaul an engine using a Haynes manual exclusively.

If I were you, I'd invest in an automotive text book - quite thick - that covers all of the systems in an automobile. We are talking "principles of operation". Each section of a car would have it's own chapter. These books are used in automotive trade schools and are available of the web(Amazon). The ones I have were printed a ways back, so I could not recommend something brand-spanking-new, but you get the drift. Others may suggest a good one to invest in.

If you don't understand how something works and to some degree the physical science that goes along with it, you'll be guessing. The factory service manual assumes an understanding of the underlying principles of operation needed for a given chapter in the FSM. The same holds true to some degree for Haynes, but it's written more for a DIYER vs. a tech with 20 yrs. shop experience.

Absolutely! My first experience with Haynes was that an old nasty one was in the back of an '88 Wrangler that I bought back when I was young in the Corps. I knew nothing about nothing, and that book walked me through every step of what I needed to do. Admittedly, I did have to ask a few questions of buddies / the internets when I got stuck, it still helped me out SO MUCH in understanding my vehicle.

I'm very excited to get my Haynes for my '15 and read through it like a kid and a bedtime storybook. Don't judge.

 

If you email them they will provide you with a usps tracking number. Thats what I had to do

 

Weather your are one of the self proclaimed Tacoma / automotive / experts on this form, or just generally experienced in vehicle maintenance and repair, this manual is a nice complement to your library of knowledge resources.
