I'm trying to plan a ski trip with some buddies in January. Originally I was planning on going to Snoeshoe WV, but after looking at lift ticket costs and lodging I am wondering if its worth the cost? Is there another ski place in WV that is better?

I'm planning on going at the end of January and it just seemed expensive for lodging and lift tickets, so I'm not sure yet. Just wondering if there was any other better place within about 5-8 hours from Cincinnati.

This is a bit late, but I'd say Snowshoe is the best in the area, and best within your radius of travel. Lots of snow and snow making ability, and it's interesting in the sense that most of the lodges are at the top of the slopes, not at the bottom. Yes, expensive, but I think it's really nice there.

My Uncle used to work as a ski patrol doctor at Snowshoe. We used to go every winter several times in the season and it was the best for us in the area. Silver Creek was cheaper but not as fun to ski. Wisp, Massanutten, and Silver Springs are also close to VA/WV/PA/MD. Used to love some double black diamond runs but haven't gone in some 10 or so years now. I do miss those days and will soon be taking my kids for memories of their own.

I only learned to ski many years ago and only went a few times there-after....
but I did learn how to ski at Massanutten there close to Harrisonburg, VA.

I don't think this is a very big place - but it could've changed since the last time I was there probably 10 years ago.

Im go to massanutten all the time since its only 45 min away from me.....Massanutten is ok but its nothing compared to snowshoe.....I ve been to wintergreen which is pretty good too.....

    1. Snowshoe(expensive but worth it)
    2. Wintergreen(Not quite as good but similar)
    3. Massanutten(Cheap lift tickets and rentals but short trails)they even have 15 lift ticket mondays

That would be ideal. I'm not sure what happening now since i started looking for rooms and found the cheapest to be 150 per night and it was like 35 miles away. I'm still looking into snowshoe, from what I have heard that will be my best bet.

I dont really care how nice the place is as long as there is a bed and running hot water.

I went last year with a big group of friends to Winterplace here in WV. We all had a blast, i think an all day lift ticket is 50 bucks or something like that, not sure though. Ive never been to snowshoe so i couldnt compare it for you.

Did you stay at the lodge? Was it a package deal? Do you remember where you found the tickets and the room at?

I stayed at a lodge at the top of the mtn and at the time it was a package deal for 3 nights and 3 lift tickets. found it on the hot deals tab in the snowshoe website. I just looked and it seems that deal is long gone. The best one i saw was buy 2 nights get the third free.

Okay thanks, I'm still checking around for the best price but by the way things are looking now, this trip is going to be alot more expensive than I had thought.
