    New here, here's my question:

I found a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner V6 4dr (Green) for sale. It has 51,300 miles. KBB value is $15,500. They are asking $15,999. My biggest issue isn't necessarily the price but the age.

I have no idea about if it is smart to buy a 14 year old Tacoma with 52k miles or if that is a risk. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would buy it if is in good condition. Look under the truck for rust. The frames rust really badly on these trucks. If the test drive and the frame is okay, I'd say go for it. Although you may want to make sure you don't want 4WD.

If you end up purchasing it, I'd recommend changing the timing belt and all the fluids.

Ok so check rust and suspension. So I should not be worried about an older vehicle not being driven very often? Should it affect anything serious? They said I was approved and at a 7.5% interest rate (good or bad)?

if it was 4x4 i would say jump on it and buy it. not being 4x4 i would say they are a couple grand over priced.make sure all the vin stickers on the body panels are there. looks clean to me.

    7.5% in way too high

It's not a 4x4. So $13,999 would be reasonable? How would I get the interest rate lowered?

Looks clean to me as well. Good tires? Make sure there's no rust on the frame. I've got an 2002 exactly like that except a 2.7L and it has 0 problems. Nothing wrong with the age.

I think the price is very reasonable. I mean, location is key with these trucks. I've seen 4Dr Tacomas with mileage at around 200k at the same price in California. But you can always haggle the price down.

I'll be moving to Wyoming in a few months as well, so hopefully it stays valued up there if there is no rust. With 7.5% interest it would come out around $19,500 after all is said and done. I want to haggle the price, but don't know the limit really before losing it.

I wouldn't do it. Although 7.5 % is not too bad on a used car loan. Are you able to go private? Probably make out better. In my opinion, they want too much for that truck.

All the used I've seen around here or Wyoming area are around $12,000 for 150k miles. Never seen one with only 52k miles! So I should buy this weekend or keep looking. Haha.

You can always use Fluid Film yearly to prevent frame rust.

$20k is a lot of money though. I would try to get the interest down along with the price down. And if it doesn't work out, then there's always deals to be found on Craigslist or eBay.

in my opinion the price is only off 1500 but the interest rate can be improved. just depends on who your financing through. I bought a used 2004 tacoma less than a year ago with less than 80,000 miles and got an interest rate under 5%. also depends on your credit rating.

Well I do have to agree with these guys. Although it's a nice truck and low miles, I'm sure you can find one just as good through private party

My credit is pretty high, but it's also pretty new so I'm sure that hurts me. I hate seeing such a clean Toyota for so high.

There's deals out there. Be patient. I sold my 97' in 2012 for 3,000. It had a ton of miles, but it was still a good running truck. I see a 2010 with 66,000 miles right now near me for the same price, only exception, it's an extended cab, and an 04' crew cab that's beautiful 4x4, 69,000 miles for 11,999.00...

Meh... 2wd is useless when it snows in Wyoming.

I'd almost rather have extended cab. I'd like to find a V6 with under 100k miles for around the $12k range. Wish I was close to where you are!
