didn't know that, and just looked at his channel and he hasn't posted in 2 years!! His free hand technique is pretty sick though!! i had my pops build a version of the edge pro that i have mounted to my work bench and use the DMT credit card stones on which does a great job. Thinking of ordering a set of the edge pro diamond stones though, they are thinner and will work better on the smaller knives. The DMT's work great on kitchen knives just not on the smaller stuff

any thoughts on those branded stones? @DCSBFTMFW or go with chosera stones ha ha ha

So I have a cheap made in China knife, should I try sharpening that before the spyderco? Only problem is half of the bevel is serrated. Also, are you suppose to sharpen knives right when you receive it or when it becomes duller?

I wouldn't bother sharpening a brand new knife, most are sharpened well from the maker.

You could learn how to sharpen on the non-serrated edge of that knife and if you mess it up, no big loss.

 

Yeah no big loss at all lol. With regular use, until how long would you sharpen a knife if you bought it new?

 

i like this method, but i found myself always reapplying the sharpie..and then getting lazy. so i tried something different and it worked for me. i bought a big magnifying glass. i could make a few sweeps and see immediately if i was too steep or too shallow.

now i'm not a robot, so my angle isnt exactly perfect everytime,..but if you keep watching, you can see (and feel) it when it right. i'm learning, but getting better.

i also found some 4 micron emulsion that cuts pretty fast. on a strop it is the best touch up or finish to a stone. (again, for me)

i think this depends. regular use is a wide net. try not to cut crazy things..like cutting food on a ceramic plate,..and it is BY FAR easier to keep a knife sharp than to sharpen a knife.

Hehe , Pun intended. And true about regular use, I probably won't be using it much, I'm not even sure if I can keep it in my glove box when I park in my school parking lot.

 

I just picked up this Petzl Spatha.
I've got it hooked into my flight helmet bag to carry in the helicopter. Hope I never have to use it. Nice knife for less than $30 though.

 

Had a couple next to me, I wanted to get my CKRT in there too but it's all the way outside... First world problems

I love my Gerber's and also CRKTs, but Gerber is where it's at for me. Absolutely love my Downrange Propel Auto, use the black "Ghoststrike" for my ankle at work, have the large survival knife and two Gerber multi-tools (one stays in the Taco) also have my Gerber seat belt cutter velcro'ed to the door pillar. Also have a SOG Voodoo hatchet as my crash axe in the back of the Taco and a SOGfari Machete (both of which are awesome and cheap at the same time). My Sig also wanted to be in the pic too...haha.

 

I LOVE how you have all smooth edge blades! All my knives are like that too, nice collection!
