Never rented a U-Haul before but am going to have to in a few months. It's a stupid question, but I have to ask... Will U-Haul let me hook up the trailer myself or do they insist one of their monkeys (sorry if anyone works at U-Haul...) do it? I will definitely double check everything if they insist they hook it up, but I really don't like anyone touch anything on my truck other than me...

Yes...they will hook it up for you, I just rented one about a month ago and they will hook it all up for you.
But here is a video just in case you need to unhook it and hook it back up again.

EDIT: I just remembered that you will also need some things.
1.)You will need a trailer wiring adapter, which they sell there.
2.)And a ball and hitch, which they also sell there. But I forgot the size of the ball, I think It's a 2 inch ball or 2 1/4 inch ball size. You can contact them or go to there website for that information.

I had to rent a U-Haul trailer about 3 months ago and they told me they had to be the ones who connected it. I hovered over the guy the whole time but he definitely knew exactly what he was doing.

I don't get the impression he doesn't know how to hook a trailer up, but maybe I'm reading it in a different way.

U-Haul insisted on hooking the trailer up, and showing me how to do it, even though I've been towing for years (used to work for a marina, and had to hook a trailer up everyday).

I agree with you once One of the MONKEYs did hook it up for me behind my Honda passport and my Dum ASS dint check it on my way to where i was going the thing popped out ... Good thing the chains held it and my spare tyre saved my car ... so yeah Last week i got one of those big ones behind my Taco and made sure it was ok... they have to do it for you but you can always double check and make sure its ok ... just follow the proper weight guidelines for thr trailer ...

Regardless of your experience with towing, it's quite simply a legal procedure they have to watch out for. If anything happens while a customer is towing something, one of the first questions insurance companies would ask is who hooked the trailer up

And I'm sure a great number of people who rent from UHaul don't have any experience towing, I'm glad their 'monkeys' do it.

Within reason, what can go wrong if they do it and you're watching?
