Hey all - I owned a '12 DCLB a few years back, was pretty happy and stupidly downsized. Life changes, own a house now, could really use a truck, so here I am.

Been lurking a long time, about to pull the trigger, just need to make a decision....

I'm really smitten with the Access Cab sport 6spd... I'm leaning this way as I really don't want to deal with the auto tranny issues (if they are issues), and well... a stick is a stick.

Realistically though, who knows, I'm betting I'd be happy either way. I do not have, nor will I ever have kids, so a 4 seat option is not needed, the long bed access cab is the ticket for me.

I know it's preference, and there are a lot of threads out there with opinions attached, but any feedback would be great.

    • A few questions I do have, why is the stick rated lower for MPG than the auto?
    • What do you guys think down the road, the resale of the Auto vs the Stick? There are so few sticks available right now, there is literally 1 in the sport in the entire state of Oregon where I reside that I can find that matches my criteria
Anything else I might want to look for?

    All feedback is appreciated!
    Mario

The stick is rated lower than an auto for MPG because the automatics are now more efficient in terms of shifting.

Being that the manual transmission is cheaper than an automatic at time of purchase (right now). They will be cheaper than an auto when selling. Not many people can drive manual transmissions anymore and lots of people see it as an inconvenience.

At the end of the day just buy what makes you happy.

The manual definitely feels more responsive as I have tested both. That being said the automatic wasn't as bad as everyone claims. It does tend to downshift every time you push the throttle but I am hearing some people say the auto behaves really well after 2,000 or 3,000 miles are put on it.
Guys like me who want a double cab long bed are being forced into autos. If you don't need the DCLB I would definitely go stick. The manual is rated at only 20 mpg highway but like manuals you can squeeze out more MPG if you are gentle on them. Good luck.

Manual v6 models have a 4.3 rear end vs 3.9 for the Auto. That's where most of your MPG loss comes from

Go with the manual, automatics are so boring.

I've ordered the same, on order since Dec. 17. Should be fun. Resale may be lower, but demand may be good due to scarcity. I've only had to replace the plastic bushing in the stick on my beater '93. Half hour job cutting carpet, making space to get the gear shift out, $20 part.

I wanted long bed but went with manual, figuring there won't be many more chances to own a stick. Get what you want.

I have a dealer local, Inferno '16 Access Cab 6spd, tow package 4x4 Sport willing to get it to go for $31,808. You think that's a good price? It seems pretty decent from what I can figure out. Costco says anything under 32.5 and I'm doing quite well.

I'm getting $750 over invoice for DCSB OR with M/T, tow and tech pkg level 2. I think some have paid less, others more.

I live in Oregon also. They did not have the TRD Sport Access Cab in Blazing Blue with the tech package available in our region. So I decided to get an Auto off road instead. I really miss having a manual though, so if they have the configuration you want in a manual, I say go for it.

I like the auto, it took awhile to smooth out but I've been happy with it. I didn't want the manual due to traffic and offroading.

I regret not getting a stick double cab short box sport sometimes. I may get it in 2 years after the lease settles on this one.

    Pros and cons to both.
    Buy what suits you.
I thought I HAD to have a manual.
    I bought an Automatic.
    Love the truck.

Bought her, brought her home. LOVE LOVE LOVE her :D TRD Sport Access Cab 6spd, tow pkg . $31808 OTD. Only one within 100 miles of here, I'm HAPPY.

I do think that they should have kept proximity unlock feature, obviously you can't have the keyless start on the Manual, but it would have been nice to have the proximity keyless for when you need to get in and out of your truck, etc.

I bought the MT too and couldn't get smart key which is bs. It is totally possible with MT as my gf's 6 speed MT Mazda has smart key. What's the difference, turn the key or push a button. Still need to engage the clutch either way. Toyota dropped the ball on this one and it's the only thing I wish I had with the MT, otherwise I absolutely love this truck.
