I have a 2013 with 6 speed and 4.0, it has a weak tick at idle and sometimes under a load while shifting around 2000-3000 RPM's is very noticeable in the truck. With 46k wondering if its normal for the 4.0, only had it 3 months.

2012 here. Mine does the same thing. I hate to use the "it's normal" saying - but the 4.0 is a noisy, but reliable bastard.

My 2015 w/ 33k on it ticks like crazy when it's cold out, until the engine warms up. My '07 did the same thing until I sold it with 210k. Never had any issues.

I guess when(IF) it ever warms up in the great white north I'll see if it gets quieter

If this was happening during the summer months and described as a pinging noise it could be what they call spark knock but since it is still cold I would also say normal.

Does spark knock cause damage? What can be done to fix it?

Just for my curiosity I'll fill up next time with premium and see if it makes a difference. Sometimes it does others not so much.

I don't know if it will hurt your engine or not, there have been a good number of people that reported it but not everyone has had the issue. In my truck I noticed it during the summer months with the engine under load, like first starting to accelerate or going up a hill, pulling a trailer etc. There is a TSB for it if you have the issue. Check out this thread...

I've noticed it's a little worse when I run premium.

Called dealer and they are going to look at it Saturday. I have some feedback in the steering wheel to, kinda feels like something is sliding on a shaft and bumping the wheal back and forth with small bumps.
