Haha...yea I see Marvin walking up and down Vulcan all the time on my way to work too. He looks a bit scary, but I'm sure he's likely harmless. I've never seen him bothering anyone. If the damn city wouldn't have turned off all the showers at the campgrounds, that would be an excellent place to car camp for a while.

Just an FYI - The showers are still on at all of the city beaches, the drought restrictions were just for state parks only.

They shut down the showers in the campgrounds for some reason. It's my go to lunch surf spot and I know the showers in the Cardiff campgrounds are off.

Yup, the campgrounds, Seaside and Cardiff Reef are all state beaches so those got turned off with the drought restrictions. All beaches like Swamis and Moonlight etc all still have showers.

Good to know...but Grandview, Pipes, Del Mar none of these places have water anymore since the restrictions last year. I thought these were all city beaches.

Pipes is a state campground beach so that makes sense but Grandview is city of Encinitas just like Swamis so that is weird ?...and Del Mar...well they just do whatever the hell they want surprised they didn't remove the showers to add more pay parking...because you know - no one should be able to go to the beach without paying to park within a mile of it :annoyed:

Hi there... I never got an alert notice for this post, sorry I am so late responding! I am actually busy finishing my new book!
My wife and I love beaches too, but mostly WARM beaches, which are on the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) side of Baja (San Felipe and south), in the summer.

There is no Castañeda, but that is the Rancho Percebu road. The umbrella is on Shell Island.

You need a 3 day weekend min. for this one, I call it Shell Island as it is a barrier island at high tide and might not be accessible at full or new moon phases. This is about 25 miles drive out of San Felipe and just south of a popular beach campo called Rancho Percebu (Laguna Percebu) near Km 20. If you want to be in a campo with food and toilets, then Percebu. If you want to be on your own, Shell Island (Km 26). The north end of the island is in front of Percebu. Allow 6 hours drive with stops for fuel and lunch from San Diego. Go I-8 to El Centro then south on Ca 111 to Calexico and drive straight into Mexicali and follow signs for San Felipe (straight ahead). You need Mexican auto insurance and you can get that online before you leave: www.bajabound.com

Been going camping there on the island since 1978... Still perfect! Because of the lagoon and salt/mud flat between the beach and the desert, it can't be developed... all tidal/ federal land... underwater at highest tides. A few times it was too deep to drive onto, so we go to Nuevo Mazatlan (Km 32) which is the next campground south, and very quiet (not like Percebu).

Here's some photos from a Shell Island trip in 2008... and they continue on south to Gonzaga Bay (which is all paved now!): http://vivabaja.com/908/

hahaha yeah I know, I have to be careful. It's easy to get carried away.. Luckily its a daily driver so It should be gentle on my wallet.
I didn't even change the wheels because I don't want to stress the wheel bearings.

Just do it anyways, the factory wheel bearings suck even with stock wheels and no lift
