With as much work as it is, Might as well go air locker.

Besides chip, you have a TRD OR....which means you have the 8.0" diff. Only the 8.4" diff came with Mech Limited slip.

So either do the elocker any time mod and blow actuators or worse pinion gears (but probably not all that likely), OR get an air locker.

Its more or less personal preference. I'm used to older vehicles with Mech LSD. I know when i hear that clutch pack lock together, i'm going to get traction to both wheels. Where as the Auto LSD Tacomas I have driven, there seemed to be an apparent lag, as if it took longer to work. And still, its applying primary power to just the wheel that isn't spinning, instead of both like the Mech LSD would

So is the air locker considered a mech? Or is that a completely different beast

Totally different, i don't exactly understand how they work.

My guess is, air pressure is applied to the gear pack engaging the locker instead of electricity actuating the gear pack such as with your elocker

Getting some work done at school today, replaced the old 20inch led bar and harness with some smaller pods.

That's correct it's the air pressure that locks up the dif, so it would technically be a mechanical locker when there's no air pressure it's basicly an open dif.

Thanks. Bought it for $150 (government auction) and once I got it registered with the MVA I sold it for $1600.00.

Hey, Did you do the end cap mod on your arb bumper?

great trailer! that's a big mamajama for a Tacoma.

facebook just popped up two pictures of "memories" from 3 years ago. even though I use my trailer pretty regularly, this was the last time I really used it on a wheeling trip :(

When you are using a trailer in that capacity, does stress/torque/twist on the hitch assembly ever become an issue?

it's still got room to move without binding in those pictures, but I have messed up a coupler or two. dumped the trailer off a cliff in florida once, and almost popped it off the ball. current setup allows me to easily unbolt and slap on a new coupler for $20 at the autoparts store. I am going to ad a max-coupler when I rebuild the enclosure on top of the trailer.

    current setup

here's the florida incident. on the other side of that tree behind the trailer, is a straight drop for about 40 feet, into a lake. bent of the coupler pretty bad.

Where in FL is that? I've never seen more than an ant hill when I've been there.

Ask and you shall receive (receive pictures) gotta get away from the coast and cities. florida is actually pretty hilly off the main drag. most of the hilly areas that we wheeled were north of Orlando, by anywhere from a half hour, to 3 hours.

Hmm. I thought Silver Lake sand dunes in Michigan were the only ones east of the Mississippi that allowed offroading.

private land, and we (FL Tacomas group) had a nice hookup with the owner of the property. lots of dunes around mid/north florida, but most are on private property, so you just have to know the right people to wheel them legally.
