Mine is at the dealer for this exact issue now. Informed them of the forum and they were aware of the issue. Will find out later today what they found and what they did to resolve.(If anything)

I have to shift into the next gear manually a lot because it is not shifting it self.

Mine goes in on Saturday AM. Dealer agreed to check the fluid level. This is the same dealer that Pittrider got his topped up at. I hope that meant physically check and not diagnostically check...

I'm having the same issue, but its only in the morning when its cold. I might have to test the hill assist theory, because with me, my street is higher then my driveway. Will try backing up and shifting on a level surface in the morning to see. I did make an appointment with my dealer for next week.

They physically checked mine and know that it appears to be an on-going issue. Thinking by now Toyota has caught the issue and resolved it in the factory, so the issue is probably up to a certain manufacture date.

Good luck with W.C.T., always had good service there.

Yes and Yes. They need to do a proper fluid check. I left mine overnight so they could experience the issue when it's cold (reverse to drive slip). If you were to ask me, since it seems to be only happening with tow package, they forgot to take into account the fluid needed for the cooler. When I suggested that to the service advisor, they just smiled (of course).

Just picked mine up from dealer and they said my transmission fluid level was down 1/10th of a qt. and they greased the u joints. As far as the reverse to drive issue they couldn't reproduce it. As far as the surging issue they have had it reported and it is normal??? Pretty much what I expected so I guess I will wait on a TSB. I will know in the morning if the 4 oz of transmission fluid did anything for the reverse to drive issue

Slip was very noticeable to me before. Definitely a delay, but since the fluid has been added, no slip at all. Dealer told me I was 2nd truck that week, add Damage Inc to that, at least 3 trucks at the same dealer, all for low fluid.

Explain that to me if it's not a factory fluid fill issue??

i wish it would be easy to tell the dealer to just top the fluids. They give me all sorts of excuses not to do it. For them eveything is fine per THE FREAKING COMPUTER

I'm guessing once the tranny sits overnight and the fluid slips into the pan, cold start is starving for a little fluid. Computer test won't tell them low fluid, only will tell them "O.K." once warmed with that small a difference in levels. I don't care what they say, mine slipped and the dealer experienced it, they checked and added fluid, now it's good. If they would have put it only on the computer, I'm sure they would have got an "all good" report too.

Tranny without tow package takes 10.5 qt fluid, with tow 11.1 qt, so it's not a lot of fluid but probably just enough to experience what we are experiencing PLUS most vehicles have been down around 0.6 qt, do you see a similarity there?

It's because it is such a pain in the ass to do it. Give me back my dip stick on the trans!

Not sure if this low fluid condition only relates to 4x4,s ????
The transmissions that were low in the 2nd gen trucks also included 2 wheel drive trucks
With this said , transmission coolers could have been added to the 2 wheel drive trucks .
I suppose the only way we are going to figure it out is if every member that finds his transmission low on fluid could post if he has the tow package with the transmission cooler

This issue could have been eliminated if the dealer was given time to check the fluid
We knew there was a problem as soon as your 3rd gens hit the streets but needed a few complaints from members to start a thread .I thought Toyota would have corrected the problem after so many 2nd gen trucks were found to be low .
Back in early December , I was hoping you guys would have seen this post
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

And exactly 1 year ago today before your 2016 trucks hit the streets , I posted this about the 2016 https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...omatic-in-the-2016-write-up-with-pics.361114/
