Meredith, Ginger and I went to do a 2 day trip and made 1 big mistake...didn't check the weather forecast. It was dry as a bone Friday night and we woke up to this...in her 2WD w/o any chains!

I was forced to call my friend to come help. None of his chains fit the Avalance (we even tried coupling multiple pairs together but it didn't work well enough) so I only made it a little way down the road and was forced to leave it on a crazy corner. The trailer was pushing too much for his 4x4 w/o chains on the steep icy road down so we left the trailer in a separate spot. (and that was in granny gear, a snails pace)

I returned Monday in my truck with some new chains for the Avy. I went back up and retrieved my trailer. The ice wasn't as bad thankfully.
    I'm home!

haha, the pebble pusher wouldn't have made it 3 inches up the hill.:p

Thanks. I decided to throw it on a trailer I had so I could unhook and wheel w/o having to always have it on back of the truck.

I couldn't agree more, it can be pretty dangerous when not equiped properly. It's just not worth risking sometimes.

    Idyllwild.

I kind of do too again...:)

I know, I know & I'm not making light of being stranded but someone will eventually say it if I don't...........Snow & Avalanches go together. Can't have one without the other. Glad everything ended up OK.

Thanks to Survivorman I knew where to look for dry wood to get the fire raging and actually had some beer left for my bud who came and helped. (but not quite enough...till we went back up with 4x4's and more beer on Monday!)

I'll have to look for this WTF thread. I don't mind the snow if I know ahead that's what I'll be in for.

    it was and it wasn't.

haha, yep, the irony of the name of the truck and what stranded it.

    my truck +1

    Victory!

Looks like a nice camp site! Yeah, a 2wd truck or SUV is not going to do much for ya in the snow. Better off with a with a 2wd, front wheel drive sedan.

LOL, that's a little snowie road, we get 10 times that and we still drive around in the Yaris. :D

But I live in snow country so that doesn't count. I can't imagine what it could be for someone who has never driven in real snow, and on real genuine ICE. :D
