I googled "2017 Tacoma changes " today. Read an article suggesting the 2017 will be noticeably lighter using aluminum and carbon fiber. The truck is heavy; DCOR >4400 lbs. My '99 Ext Cab is about 1000 lbs lighter. I have trouble believing such a significant change would be made in just the 2nd year of a new run. A lighter truck would improve performance and fuel economy. Does anyone have any reliable info on 2017 changes? I am about ready to buy a 2016 but would wait for a 2017 if noticeably lighter.

No kidding, and if they were going to set themselves up with aluminum and carbon fiber (LOL in itself) they'd have done it with this redesign, or they'll do it with the next redesign - which I highly doubt. That's not how Toyota runs their show.

The rumors article predicts a 5 liter diesel engine. If they did come out with a diesel it would be smaller displacement like the Hilux diesels. I agree Toyota would not do a major redesign after 1 year. I call bs on the rumors.

Boone, yes that is the article I read. Like I said, I can't believe Toyota would make a change like that this quickly given the history. My dealer here in Charlotte (10 miles from Fort Mill, SC where I live) has an Inferno, DC TDOR coming March 16 from the Texas plant (VIN starts with 5). If they can delete the factory Tonneau cover I intend to buy it. Will know in few days. The sales mgr has put in request. Build start date mid Feb. His last such request was during build and denied. I own an 80 acre farm, primarily forested for hunting and recreation but many logging roads. I use 4WD every weekend and use my bed a lot (chainsaw, food plot stuff, tractor maint. Tools, etc. I like the idea of a Tonneau cover for trips but I would have it off most of time. I am not crazy about the machine screws penetrating the bed rails. There are 2 holes drilled for each cover latch stud. They are hidden by a plastic cover around the latch stud. Anyway, rather spend the $650 on something else. If they can't delete it, might get anyway. Hard to find. I have driven 2 different DC TDORs and NO drive-line vibration at all in the 1800-2300 rpm range on highway. Other than that issue, I have been following the hood adhesive issue. The one I drove today had color matched adhesive (painted) but the adhesive is pliable and not crumbling. I thought I read where someone on here said look for black adhesive for evidence that the factory has implemented a fix? Explanation was heat applied after painting was damaging adhesive. Anyway, don't want the hood hassles. Wondering if factory has their procedure fixed by either using proper adhesive that can survive heat (if panels baked after painting?, not sure they are) or putting adhesive on after painting. The one today looked fine but was painted.

There's a lot of fun to be had with that article and it's abundance of misinformation. Toyota would have to have completely lost their minds to implement changes like that in 2017 which isn't going to happen. I understand not wanting to drop the$650.00 on something you don't really want/ need, but it the grand scheme it's only $650.00 and the covers do come in handy every once in a while. I wouldn't let that hold me back if it were me, but everybody has there own opinion. Good luck with your purchase.

Click bait site....bunch of them out there for all models. They usually spew BS to draw you there and then put tons of cookies on your computer. I fell into the trap a couple of years ago with the Tundra diesel then got the shit spammed out of me.
