My UCA's are the same as yours. The problem is, the force that holds that pressed slug in, isn't constant. It changes depending on what the suspension is doing. What is supplying the force to keep that slug in the spindle is not the bolt, it is the force of the slug pressed into the spindle. The way your upper uniball is set up currently, if the slug lost its force of the spindle on it, the entire assembly could lower through the spindle. The bolt does not hold the entire assembly in place because it only adds force on the bottom of the spindle, not the top.

Here is the stock configuration. The bolt only provides force in 1 direction, however, that amount of force varies depending suspension travel.

Here is my new configuration. This way the bolt provides force in 2 directions causing a compression stress on the spindle. This force is constant. As long as the bolt stays at the same tightness, the amount of force keeping this assembly on the spindle is constant, no matter how hard the front suspension bottoms out, or drops out.

So basically all you have to do is cut the slug in half, and lathe out a piece similar to the bottom half of the slug and flip it upside down, just like the screenshot above.
Sorry for the crappy picture, my camera is broken

Edit: Also, if the force of the slug being pressed in to the spindle is too large, it can cause the spindle to crack and you end up with this, however my new design solves that problem too.

It's probably fine on most, the problem with mine is that welding the spindle gussets on caused the spindle to expand slightly, loosening the slug. Which obviously compromises the safety of it all. However, my new design is 100% fail proof.

Also that C-Clip is not even close to strong enough to be a fail safe.

I'm telling you it can't fail haha. It'll be ripped out for a built spindle within a year anyways

I see what you are saying but I have never seen the snap ring fail. The only way I would see a benefit is if you were bumping off the upper, and in that case you shouldnt be using a stock spindle anyway

Right, but it only failed because you said the spindle expanded from welding. That is going to put all the weight on the snap ring instead of the slug being pressed in and holding its own weight. Your fix will definitely work with stretched spindles, but I would worry about putting too much force squeezing the spindle and snapping like your photo, its not designed for that. I am all about trying new things though, hopefully it works for you

It could happen to anyone who has added heat to the spindle in any form, unless you calculated the amount of force required to push the slug in and measured before welding and after. But we'll see. It will be beat hard and it will either break or it won't.

Keep doing what you're doing, this is how shit gets better and eventually the design is standard because it's just that reliable . . .
